So I Just Watched Sonic The Hedgehog 2 · 8:22pm May 21st, 2022
Whilst I was writing this I was honestly having my doubts about posting it as a blog post. All the usual questions came to mind: Are people going to care? Will they even read it? Should I just delete this post and move on, continue in silence safe in knowing I'm not doing anything that would make people unfollow, etc...
Well, by Luna's dank flanks, it's my blog, and if I want to nerd out about something I like, I'm going to do. Otherwise I'm never going to post anything to my blog.
So, getting to the movie: in all honesty, I wasn't expecting there to be a Sonic The Hedgehog 2. At least not one so soon.
How long has it been? What...? Oh wow. Two years.
I was fully expecting it to be a one-and-done, you know, like Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, or Iron Man. What's what? Iron Man led to... Oh. Oh! Well you get the idea. I thought it was going to be one of those franchises that you enjoy at the time. It makes a big splash in the box office and then you don't hear anything about it for about ten years until it either gets a reboot or a backdoor reference in a marvel movie about Spider-man.
That said, I'm not really aware of the larger consensus on this movie, so I don't know if I'll be burned at the stake for saying this, but honestly... I actually really enjoyed it. It was fun and quirky, and though at times I was going "wait what" when there were gadgets that came out of seemingly nowhere, it was still faithful to the original games.
But now for what is arguably the most important bit. My absolute favourite part of this movie, and the reason I decided to write this blog today, as I stand in my kitchen cooking dinner... Is the character reveal.
Now we all knew that the movie container Knuckles. He was in the trailer, and that was absolutely everywhere. It was memed to death, I'm pretty sure, but... Well. Without going too far to avoid spoilers, let me put it after the break.

TAILS IS SO BUCKING ADORABLE OMG
LOOK AT HIS TINY CHEEKS! He's half the size of Sonic! HE'S SO SMOL!
Words cannot describe how much I love the way he turned out in this movie. I also cannot post enough photos to properly encapsulate my love for this character, so I made a small collection of them that you can freely peruse.
Tails is easily the star of the show. Hands-down, the. Best. Character. I can totally understand why some people have apparently confused him for being a female. He's like the Rumble of the Sonic franchise. He's just really, frigging cute!
When Tails first appeared on screen, I was expecting him to be an agent of some kind, part of a resistance force or a soldier in training, like a scout. Instead they gave him just the sweetest, and honestly most fitting backstory I could imagine. He's just a kid who happened to be watching from his home planet, and decided to help out of the goodness of his heart.
He came to warn Sonic about Knuckles and Robotnik, because he looked up to Sonic like a role model.
And yes, he does use his butt as a helicopter.
(No, this does not mean I'm switching fandoms. I just wanted to post about this. Also might post a few more blogs as things happen, as there's a quite a few changes IRL happening in my life right now that I've only mentioned to a few people on Discord.)
