Going strong, FIMfiction. · 3:06am May 21st, 2022
It's strange, but I've been active/semi-active on this site for over eleven years. That's twice as long as I puttered about on Fanfiction.net, where this username/gamertag evolved from a pompous mouthful that included the words "Great" and "of." It's even stranger to think that I've been reading and writing fanfiction for eighteen years, starting on sites like Gametalk. I shudder to remember those early days...
In the grand scheme of things, eighteen years in a hobby is neither illustrious nor long. There are grandparents that started in Star Trek and LOTR fanfiction, and some of their grandkids are pushing 30 like me. Still, those eighteen years cover the better part of my life (literally, but the worst parts got mixed in as well). It's all the more remarkable, then, that twelve (nearly thirteen) of those years were spent enjoying *My Little Pony.* Ten-year-old me never saw this coming, and fifteen-year-old me would've scrambled to escape this fate. Yet, here we are. Enjoying the blends of high fantasy and tasteful slice-of-life, even when most of it is little better than my Fanfiction.net efforts.
FIMfiction is going strong, even if it has shrank. It's lived longer than Gametalk. It's better maintained and moderated than Fanfiction.net. And the best part is, these days I can turn on "View Mature" and only see two or three porn stories in the Featured Stories box. Plus, those "clops" rarely have as many views and upvotes as the tamer Featured Stories. The wholesomeness lives on, and I'm still here for it.
Thanks for all the good times, FIMfic. I just wish more of the Old Guard was still around to share it with. Thumbs up. 👍
And yes, I do still write. Most of it is just written for my eyes only, or it needs a proofreader that I'm not ready to beg for. The real problem is how little I read. Part of that is avoidance, I think. I'm still gunshy around things that remind me of my brother, so the stories he recommended are... Still on the shelf. Waiting. But after I finish Brandon Sanderson's "Rhythm of War," I'll have completed my non-fanfiction reading list... And after that, you're all going to keep me comforted, thrilled, and flabbergasted for years to come.
Well, I hope it lasts for years to come. Things can change in a heartbeat. It's remarkable we've lasted this long. Here's to another eleven years!
I liked ur story named "the weak" was a fun emotional short fic so im glad to see ya back
Well said. It's been a long, strange trip thus far. I'm looking forward to whatever's next.
