2022 April MOFA Contest Results · 2:27am May 21st, 2022

As usual, this month was hard to judge!

A Question of Qualifications

Although I enjoyed the story that EileenSaysHi posted after the Flashfic 150 Contest's close and asked to have entered for the MOFA, I think it's easier for MOFA to follow the Flashfic 150 rules unless otherwise specified. Otherwise, things move towards an unmanageable mess of special cases that I don't know how to handle fairly. Logan's Flashfic 150 rules are fairly easy, and using those same rules, including the deadline, gives me a few days in which, if I'm not otherwise busy, I can quietly, non-publicly read and judge before Logan even releases his results.

(This time I was otherwise, unreasonably busy, though.)

MOFA Second Place

There were several stories I could have felt good about picking as a MOFA first place winner, let alone the second place winner.

This month, as it happens, second place by a narrow margin is Amereep's "Baby Blue." In this story, two ponies suddenly arrive at two separate revelations.

MOFA First Place

The first place winner by part of a nosetip is KwirkyJ's "Vigil," an AU about how Sunset Shimmer's arrival in the human world could have gone very differently.

Anyway, contest judging inevitably has an arbitrary or subjective element to it, so again I should congratulate all the writers whose stories were good in ways that I didn't optimally appreciate to understand that I should have given them MOFA awards too.

Entering For the May 2022 MOFA

Fortunately, the way to enter for the May 2022 MOFA was as usual, simply to enter the Flashfic 150. We have a round of new contenders without my even having done anything about it. On the other hand, if you didn't already enter this month's Flashfic 150 round, the May round closes in only about eight or nine hours. Better hurry up, I guess. Or enter for June, or try to do both.

Thanks again for entering the 2022 April MOFA contest, even if you didn't mean to!

In retrospect, the fact that I chose the prompt for the contest would have disqualified me regardless of the deadline issue. I just wasn't really thinking about that aspect of it because it had been so long and I went with a different interpretation of the prompt than what I'd had in mind when I chose it.

(Glad you liked it though!)
