Greetings, everyone. This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today. This afternoon, I will be reviewing the fifth installment of the franchise entitled: Ice Age 5: Collision Course. I watched this movie some time last summer for the first time right after I watched the fourth film. Unlike the previous film that actually managed to solidify the character arcs of our heroes and to present a formidable antagonist, this movie managed to throw their character development out the window and disgrace the very name of this milked-to-death franchise. I present to you all a movie that started the downfall of this series and spat on the face of those who thoroughly enjoyed the first four movies.

This film is about alien space ships that collided with earth eons ago which managed to create the Solar System thanks to the destructive antics of Scrat. An asteroid threatens to destroy earth in the present time, and Bucky returns to help the herd save the planet while avoiding the claws of the dinosaur trio.

This film was an absolute mess. it didn't even feel like an Ice Age movie since it has nothing to do with the Ice Age in general. Think about it: the first movie was all about that, the second movie dealt with its meltdown, the third movie uncovered the existence of the dinosaurs below ice, and the fourth movie showcased the drifting of the continents including the ice. But this movie? SPACE SHIPS?!? They took a joke from the first movie and decided to make a movie about it here?! Don't tell me a frozen space ship from the first movie was foreshadowing because that only served as a joke or Easter egg. Nothing more. What the hell do space ships have to do with the story of this franchise?

I also hated the fact that dinosaurs can now talk in this film. Not a single one of them could talk in the third movie, so why did the filmmakers think that dinosaurs being able to talk was important? it just ruined the unique aspect of them to separate them from the main animal herd. Dinosaurs talking with the herd is the equivalence of actual animals talking with humans in real life. I never understood why they let them have the ability to speak at all.

What's even worse is that they ruined Manny's character in this trainwreck. Here, he's acting like a complete obsessive father with insecurities. They threw away his character growth from the first four movies and made him into a cringeworthy idiot who tries to get in-between his daughter and her boyfriend Julian despite the fact that he previously learned to let his daughter grow up and have fun.

I didn't like the distracting subplot of Sid trying to find love and then finally getting a romantic love interest later on. How many times are we going to shove down the throats of the audience that Sid needs to find love? Give me a break....

Diego and Shira were severely underutilized in this movie. They were never given enough time to further grow as characters and to have their own moments to shine. The humor was atrocious and unfunny, Bucky was more or less entertaining than he was in the third film, and the new characters were so forgettable. I will say that the voice acting and the animation were both top-notch, but I'm not a fan of the soundtracks or scores in this film.

The villains were generic and had no substance whatsoever. Their underdeveloped reformation felt unnecessary and forced too. That's all I have to say about them.

This movie was such a disappointing downgrade; even after watching the trailer of The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, I still think this franchise needs to be buried. This is the last time I am reviewing an Ice Age property, and I have no desire to watch the sixth movie. This gets a 4/10.

Peace out.

There may have been its flaws, but I thought it was okay. Also, the things frozen in the ice cave during the first movie actually foreshadowed the last four main movies.

What did I just say, dude?

It was not foreshadowing, no matter how you word it. A space ship serves no purpose in the overall story.

I totally relate to you on the matter.

It's been years since I last saw this movie, and despite being amused by it in some parts, even I felt that it gave clear signs that the Ice Age franchise was running its course. I wasn't at all pleased with the underuse of Diego and Shira, and if that wasn't an example of a clearly overcrowded and overbalanced plot, I don't know what is.

While I don't have any idea at all of what Blue Sky was thinking with this movie in the first place, I personally believe that "Continental Drift" served as a better conclusion for the series than anything else.

I definitely agree with you on that.
