Question of the Week #56 · 2:20am May 17th, 2022

Sorry, for the VERY late Question of the Week blog. I must have contracted some sort of bug, and as the week went on, I developed a head cold... so I forgot. :pinkiesick:

Well, I may still have a head cold, but here is the question of the week. :pinkiesad2:

So recently it has been revealed that there are some cartoon/animation entertainment companies (one of which has a familiar looking mouse in it) that are using their platform and their shows/movies to try to influence children in regard to political and sexual manners. Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel that politics and children shouldn't mix. Children should be allowed to be... children. Adults shouldn't be forcing young children into adult matters. :ajbemused:

Therefore, I wanted to ask a couple of questions.

  1. Do you agree with me on this matter?
  2. If there was a cartoon that was dedicated to supporting family values and not pushing adult content on children, would you watch/support it?
  3. If I were to attempt to throw my hat into the ring in regard to this matter, would you be interested?

Thank you all for reading this blog and thank you all for your support. I hope you all have a wonderful week.

I think I'd have to answer... Yes to all three points. Children are children, let them be children.

On a semi related note, it's good that you're feeling better.

1)yes unless the child is a born liar poli*ician.
2)only if it is interesting
3)yes

Hope you recover fast. <3

Children should be allowed to be children. If they want to partake in such things as politics, they will usually go and do it on their own, with their own pace and topics to choose.
And really, influencing anyone in this way ist just... not ok. You can portray values as good or bad if they are already socially accepted as such, but not otherwise. Healthy discussion sure, but not manipulation.

Now I’d like to add that I am not aware of whatever situation you are talking about. I don’t know if these “adult topics” are war, or that you don’t rob people, or anything else. So I will not make a judgement call on your specific situation.
As for watching a cartoon, probably not. I usually don’t like watching cartoons, or any kinda show really - instead, I read.

“Political and sexual” matters covers a decent amount of ground. Fiction allows the exploration of subjects that relate to the human condition, of which sex and politics are certainly a part.

Let’s take a look at the MLP:FiM’s stance on homosexuality, keeping in mind that it is a show for kids. The prime theme of the show is about Friendship regardless the other person’s race, sex, etc. So a person who is a homosexual can still be your friend. Plus the show favorably presented two lesbian couples in the final episodes. Is that a political statement? If so, I’m fine with it.

As far as adult subjects, I would argue that is what made the show so good.

5658047 Now I haven't seen the last two episodes of the last season, so I can't say much there, but what I can say is that from what I saw, while MLP may have hinted at it, they never outright said it or made a big deal about it. Now some parents still might not be a big fan of that, but most probably wouldn't be too upset by this.

And agree with you in regards to the theme of MLP being that people can be friends with someone in regards to their race, gender, etc... Is a good thing.

What's happening now though is we are having some animation companies trying to not only make this more prominent in their shows as well as other political matters (like critical race theory), which would actually be opposed to the theme MLP has (something I am hoping the next Gen of MLP won't fall into). Because of this, parents are starting to pay more attention to the cartoons their children watch (which is a good thing) and are unsubscribing from netflix, disney+, etc...

As for MLP being more adult, I'd say that it definitely has some elements that can appeal to adults, but it's still designed for kids.

Hoping that clears things up a bit.

5658000 At some point when I have a bit more details I'll post a blog about the idea, but for now I have to keep it vague (don't want anyone stealing it). Though I'm thinking of maybe going the Hilda route (it was a book series before becoming a Netflix cartoon), so it might be a book that you can read. :raritywink:

5657939
5657942 I'm glad you both like the sound of it. I can say for a fact that the story I have mind is interesting... At least for me.

I can say that for the art style (I plan on illustrating some concepts for the characters at some point) will be along the lines of Gravity Falls and Hilda's art style. Also it will involve humans and non-human creatures. :derpyderp1:
