A JD Review: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) · 4:45am May 14th, 2022

Marvel brings us the horrors of the multiverse...

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

Since Spider-Man: No Way Home, the multiverse has opened brand new possibilities for not just the MCU, but all of Marvel. Doctor Strange was the clear next step to take in opening up this expansive idea.

What I really liked about this movie was how dark it was. It didn't shy away from the horror elements, and those were arguably some of the better moments. The story is fairly simple, but the plot tends to lose itself once the universe hopping begins. As for the characters, I'd say they were all handled arguably well. I didn't hate America Chavez. She was fine. Strange and Wong are great. But Wanda, man... the things she did in this movie were damn-near irredeemable. Like holy hell, WandaVision was the start of her fall, and she plummets into the depths of Hell in this movie. Absolute villain here.

There's a lot of spoilers, so... let's not beat around the bush!

Overall, not a fantastic film, but a mind-bending and entertaining one nonetheless! 8/10! What were your thoughts?

SPOILER REVIEW

Gotta say, I really wish they went more apocalyptic with this film. The trailers made it seem like the multiverse was basically going to war, which I'm pretty sure Loki helped set up if I'm not mistaken. No, the real villain of this movie was Wanda, much more than I expected her to be. Even though they tried to redeem her, I don't really buy it. What she did to all those innocent people, plus Kamar-Taj, PLUS the Illuminati...

Oh, yeah... the Illuminati. :rainbowderp:

Easily the highlight of the film is when Doctor Strange is captured by the Illuminati, basically some of the most powerful and brilliant minds in all the multiverse united. We got Captain Carter (maybe from What If...? I don't know), a variant of Captain Marvel, freaking Black Bolt with the same actor from Inhumans (all 20 people who watched that show, myself included, got a pretty cool cameo there).

But that ain't all... John Krasinski as Reed Richards of the Fantastic 4! I heard rumors, but I didn't think Marvel would actually go for a fan casting! Gosh, I REALLY hope John returns as Reed in the upcoming Fantastic 4 film! He did great before he was horribly mutilated by Wanda. And of course, Sir Patrick Stewart returns as a variant of Professor Charles Xavier of the X-Men! Honestly, so cool that they brought him back. But of course, horribly murdered by Wanda. Again, I hope he comes back, but we'll see what Marvel has in store for the X-Men.

There were other rumors that Deadpool was gonna make his MCU debut here, but that didn't happen sadly. Guess we'll find out in Deadpool 3 how he gets there haha.

Anyway, a cool film with some unique concepts, with a plot that kinda dropped the ball here and there. I just wished it did a little bit more. 8/10!

5/10 for me, not a fan of what they’ve reduced Wanda to let alone letting her hog the majority of the spotlight in Doctor Strange’s movie and felt like they killed the Illuminati way too easy.

It's also a pretty wise choice of "ill-iminating" the Illuminati, given that otherwise it would be Cameos: The Movie (No way Home did the eye candy nostalgia characters better IMO). Despite their unceremonious demise, Reed was typically arrogant enough to give away the team's trump card, and Wanda's become like the comic books in feats. They're variants for all we know, as this isn't the first time a variant died pathetically (Kang). But yeah, the pacing's the issue, but Sam Raimi managed to stray the movie from the typical formula.

I don't like that they made Wanda a villain after the whole arc she went through in Wandavision. Maybe her next appearance will redeem that.

I liked it overall. I liked the horror tone the film had, the directing was great and help make the movie stand out from the other MCU films, and I liked what it did for Strange’s character.

Wanda is definitely going to be the most decisive element in the film. I agree i don’t think they nail her transition to villain too well, but I gotta say she was a pretty effective and threatening villain. Pretty much turned into a slasher villain. Yeah though it’s going to be hard to redeem her for future appearances.

Good that they introduced the Illuminati, bad that they had Wanda unlock God mode and kill them all off in one movie. This one wasn’t as bad as movies like Eternals, but I still feel like a lot went in the wrong direction and not enough was done to polish the writing. This one gets a solid 6.5 out of me.

Is it because Thor’s story is done in endgame?

5674254 No, it just doesn’t look appealing to me.

There is the trailer for black panther 2

The plot was weak, I mean couldn't wanda just make a bargain with america to go to a universe where her sons became orphans??
