Ukraine 2022 - Russia Called, They Want Chernobyl Back · 3:37pm Feb 25th, 2022

Apologies for the Scrolldroll watermark at the bottom-right of the image, but this is the best one I could find which included both the quote in a neat font and a headshot of Jared Harris, portraying Valery Legasov in HBO's Chernobyl.

I jest with the title of this journal, but I seek to do what I can to alleviate the mood as what we feared is upon us. Consider only that the Chernobyl exclusion site stands as a monument of Russian failure, of why Russian rule brought nothing good to the Ukraine, and hopefully some form of historical irony will play out as Vladimir Putin's military forces seek to go through this area as a shortcut to take Kyiv.

But keep it in your minds that the Russian people themselves are not the enemy here. A Russian platoon surrendered to the Ukrainians upon learning that this criminal enterprise would be going forward. And Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of Russia's sole remaining "free" newspaper Novaya Gazeta and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize of 2021, has stated he shall continue to speak out against the actions of Putin's government, all while anti-war protesters march in St. Petersburg.

If you can, I encourage you to show your support in a small way and pin the colours of the Ukrainian flag to your social media profile.

What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all. What can we do then? What else is left but to abandon even the hope of truth and content ourselves instead with stories? In these stories, it doesn't matter who the heroes are. All we want to know is: "Who is to blame?"

Immortal words from a great show.

The least we can do here is make sure the truth makes it out, far and above the cries of Russian apologism.

May Ukraine stand tall, always.

I hope and believe that even if Ukraine is brought under Russian rule that it will find itself free again soon. I believe that this is only a temporary period in its history and the lashing out of a dictator in the twilight of his life. May Ukraine stand free.
