Heh, whoops... · 1:25am Feb 8th, 2022
So, trust me to do a big "I'm back!" post and then immediately disappear for a couple months. Sorry about that! The last couple of months at work have been a little brutal, there's some personal home-life stuff happening, and I'm just generally out of practice when it comes to posting. I'll make an effort to post more frequently!
One thing that's happened at work is that the big bosses have decided that it's time for everyone to come back to the office full time. This is even though they've been making decent profits for the last 1.5 years of lockdown, and in spite of the recent surges in Covid across the country.
I definitely have some thoughts on that. Unfortunately, they didn't bother to ask my opinion before making this decision!
The biggest part of this at the moment is that my team has to check and make sure that equipment is available and ready for the non-IT folks when they come back. This means lots of wandering the floors and inventory-checking, as lots of equipment wandered off-site and into people's home offices while they worked from home. It means even more checking and testing of equipment, an unfortunate amount of which has been powered off and unused for nearly 2 years. This means they've been automatically decommissioned and removed from the network, and we can't just power them back up and re-add them for a whole host of policy and security reasons. So, a lot of folks may come back to find that their desktop PC is now an electronic paperweight.
ANYWAY... As far as writing goes, I'm actually involved in a couple of writing projects, both of them non-pony-related. One is with a fellow FimFic writer (I'll spill the beans on who that is if they give me permission to do so). That one we started working on a while ago, but life got in the way for me and it's been a while since we've worked on it.
The other project is with a friend of mine outside of the fandom who asked me to help to write a horror movie script with him. Well, actually, he's doing almost all of the actual writing, and I'm mostly just making suggestions. Still, it counts!
As for pony-related stuff? I'm still feeling really unprepared to pick up Sunflower: Harmony where I left off. I've been re-reading it in preparation, but it's slow going. Also, the rust lies thick on my keyboard, so I need to knock some of that off. More importantly, I want to make sure I'm in the right headspace to continue. Getting the right "voice" back is pretty important to me.
So, rather than just jumping right back into Harmony, I want to "warm up" by writing some short stories. I have a few in the planning/outline stages. They may not all make it into actual stories, but at least a couple of them should.
Anywhoo, that's a quick update on the Life and Times of Hoopy McGee. I hope you're all doing well and are staying warm and healthy this winter!
~Hoopy.
welcome back I'm glad you doing okay
I know that feel. In 2021 I had a period where I had to put my writing on hold and wound up having to re-read the main story, the side story, and ALL my notes just to get back into the right headspace. Take your time and get back into it at your own pace.
Glad to have one of the old gang back!
<3
Glad to hear you're doing well!
And you have my permission~
I've been doing that for the last two years without leaving the office, since most everybody *else* left, so there's no danger for me to stay in my frigid cave and bemoan the vast exodus of computer equipment while wondering just how much of it will actually return in the end. The hardest part is trying to explain over the phone to people working from home that their personal internet sucks and there's literally nothing I can do to fix that when they try to run Voice-over-IP and VPN and Citrix over it all at once while their kids are doing remote school and watching Netflix. Slow? Gee, I wonder why? (Oh, and three of our IT peeps left recently, so that's been a bit of stress too.)
Sigh. So glad to see you back.
Looking forward to more Sunflower, but am ready to wait.
Welcome back dude. You don't know how I missed you and your Fics.

You, gimme more ponies on a farm and or evading FBI. XD
Ah, good to have ya back. I wasn't current with keeping track of ya, but I am pleased to know you still come back here and are thinking of the audience you've made here. I look forward to what you'll make next!
Thank you for your checking in with your Fimfiction Fans. Project: Sunflower holds a strong, fond memory with me...
In any case, I appreciate you checking in and much like Herrzog, I am looking forward to more Sunflower, but more than ready to wait for you to get settled and find that headspace.
Until then, I wish you all the best.
What, YOU again?! I thought for sure that bear trap had finished you off!
...must plan more carefully next time...
I'm so glad to see just an update from you! I know it hasn't been the best for you for a bit, but I hope things are going much better!
Oh well I just finished project sunflower less than half an hour ago so I’m willing to wait for sequel to update in the meantime Side story here I come

It's because your bosses likely have this "old person" mentality and want total control, which they would lack if most of their company worked remotely...
Anyway, glad to see you're back... again.
I mean, I took this opportunity to read all the stories you've published (some for the second time), and to my joy there were more of them than I recalled. I rather enjoyed Trixie of the Night Guard and School of Hard Knocks. Thank you for continuing to write.
I’m just glad you’re back!
Great to hear!
This sounds a lot like recent decisions at my own company, as well as how our IT stack works, slight curiosity if we have the same employer.
I've waited this long for more sunflower.... I can wait longer. :)
I'm just happy to see you around!
Welcome back, Hoopy!
