Things are bad at the moment; we are in the red and don't yet have solid prospects for getting out. The temporary fix I mentioned is looking shakier than I thought and we're having to seek cheaper housing.

I have no idea why so many spambots are specifically seeking out this blog to comment on. We're investigating a number of ways to deal with the problem, but there are few options that wouldn't significantly impact user experience for real users. Until then, we can only try to delete the ones that post comments as soon as they're detected.

Presumably the reasoning makes about as much sense to a human as their actual posts do. I do wonder if they're even targeting humans at this point, or have somehow started targeting other bots; the ones that have shown up here do not seem likely to convince a human "Yes, this is definitely a trustworthy link I should click on".
