So! A friend just let me borrow Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, and I recently bought too a compilation of Final Fantasy 7 and 8. Soooo... Well, I won't be MIA, but I will be a bit less present for the following week(s). I know, it's sad, but it's actually homework for UME. I'm doing this for you guys (and also for myself because I always wanted to play them). SMT may help me better understand the universe/multiverse of Persona (and may mean that characters from SMT may appear in the story), and playing FF7 instead of just watching a playthrough will be a big plus for when it will be time to make Cloud and his friends appear. I know there's the Remake, but the problem with the Remake is that it currently only covers the first five hours of the original FF7 and it will certainly take years and years before we reach the end, so...
I already started SMT3, and I can already say that I will spend a LOT of time on this game. I'm in Ginza, and I'm about to start the Underpass, but the battles are already starting to get hard. I almost died a couple of times in the Amala labyrinth. And yet, I have gotten some good demons and I'm doing a lot of back-and-forth to level up. If any of you have some advice to give...
Well that’s good!I’m perfectly fine with the wait if that’s means you got to Both enjoy yourself and improve future content for UME.
Also sorry,I only played both persona 3 & 4 and a bit of the digital devil saga,so I’m not able to give advice besides the common things:Abuse the hell out of weaknesses,Abuse the hell out of Buff/Debuffs and away go in Grinding sessions before Bosses.Good luck.

That point about buffs and debuffs is worth repeating. Those tend to be useless in a lot of JRPGs, but Nocturne in particular drills it into you how necessary they and their removal are to the series by tossing Matador at you as part of the plot. (Matador is usually an optional boss, with all the power that implies).

I think that I started to understand this when these rock demons in Amala constantly turned fights into hell by buffing the defense of their whole team. The problem is that most buff/debuff spells cost a lot of MP so I hesitate to use them.
Do you still have Pixie, or at least a fusion of Her and another demon? Keep them, and Don't depart with them.
There's a door in one of the late game dungeons that asks you to select the First demon you have ever got, As in, pixie, whatever she can evolve into, or Whatever you fuse her into. if you give the door the correct demon, you get a Really good reward.
also, the Kagutsuchi Phase is interesting, The demons get stinger during full phases and weaker During New phases. Full phase demons can be simple to talk to, along with the only way to get Wilder, Haunt and Foul Demons, but can outright refuse to listen to you. new phase, demons WILL listen, though you can still mess up talking to them.

Yes, I still have her in her evolved form. Thanks for the warning.
I had understood that the demons were becoming stronger the more Kagutsuchi reached the full phase, but I hadn't remarked that demons also became harder to recruit. I will have to remember that. Thanks again.
maybe some of this videos help your research:

That first video is pretty important with Sora in Smash.
