Changing MJ’s Backstory In Trials of the Force Because I Loved No Way Home · 6:41am Dec 22nd, 2021
I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. Actually, that’s an understatement. I outright ADORE this movie! It’s right up there right next to the Snyder Cut of Justice League (You’d be hard pressed to find a film that beats the scale and epicness of ZSJL, but DANG does this movie almost come close in terms of ambition, etc). Not only does the movie answer all the criticisms of the previous MCU Spider-Man movies and corrects them, it actually made me a full-on hardcore Spider-Man fan. And this is coming from someone who has not seen any of Tobey Maguire nor Andrew Garfield’s past Spider-Man flicks.
If you want a full on spoiler review in the form of another blog post, feel free to ask me and I’d be happy to share my full thoughts on this outstanding film. But in particular, I want to focus on one character in particular, that being Michelle Jones Watson (aka MJ), played by the famous actress Zendaya. Basically everything about this character is improved upon in this film. She went from being a literal snarky nobody in Homecoming, to having a slightly larger role in Far From Home, to being a straight up lead in No Way Home, and I am not kidding. Her relationship with Peter Parker is fleshed out, we get to see more of her life outside of school, such as her crappy work life with a demeaning boss (#Relatable). And she gets to show more emotion in this film compared to the previous entries, which is something I always felt the character was missing. We get to see that she cares a lot about Peter, being able to open up around him while still being her usual self, albeit to a lesser extent.
Since Homecoming and Far From Home didn’t really give me much of a wide personality wise basis to write on when incorporating MJ into Trials of the Force, this film’s portrayal was everything that I wanted from the character. And just for that, I’m making an important author’s decision. I’m changing the way MJ is introduced in the story. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. ‘This is a MLP-Star Wars crossover story. You can’t just incorporate the MCU there too!’ Well, why can’t I? As I said previously in my author’s notes and now deleted comments, my stories are all about giving characters largely overlooked their due justice. Silverstream is the main character of this story because she deserves to be. Using Twilight Sparkle would be taking the easy way out (I’m directly addressing Starlight Nova’s comment in this blog post because my now deleted comment got downvoted for some reason. I’m still not sure what I did wrong ). Plus, this story is a three-way crossover for a reason. I promise it’ll only be 3 properties in this story. Equestria Girls doesn’t count because it’s still MLP. I have a full on plan for these characters, and I hope you all will patiently let it play out the way I want it to before casting judgement. I’m still growing as a writer, so if anyone has any constructive feedback, I’d really appreciate it.
I’m not going to spoil in this post how exactly I am going to change MJ’s introduction, but rest be assured, it’ll be better than the original idea. The only thing I’m going to say is that Peter Parker still dies since that was already set up in the prologue, so…sorry.
Again, if you all want a full on review of Spider-Man: No Way Home, I’d be happy to do so, so feel free to let me know. This is Admiral Producer signing out until the next post. See y’all soon!
