So today, we finally got a Scootaloo episode. When I first saw the synopsis, I had some serious doubts. I mean, a nightmare episode? When I heard that Rainbow Dash was going to be in it, it made things better . . . but still. I had a feeling that this was going to be the biggest flop of season three.
And then I saw it.
And then rainbows spewed out of my mouth.
So, what about this episode made it so amazing? (spoilers ahead)
Well, the first third of the episode was . . . meh. Rarity was a bitch, Applejack was little miss perfect older sister, and Sweetie Belle just gave into anything her sister made her do. It really kicked in when they started setting up camp. The way that Scootaloo fangirled over Rainbow Dash, and the way that Rainbow accepted it . . . DAWWWWWW.
So Rainbow Dash tells the story, all three crusaders get scared, and Applebloom and Sweetie Belle snap out of it. The reason they got less scared, though, was because their sisters comforted them. Rainbow Dash, on the other hoof, doesn't bother to comfort poor Scoots, so Scootaloo has the nightmare. And the nightmare is . . . meh. The foreshadowing with Luna was cool, and the animation was excellent, but otherwise it was kind of boring.
Scootaloo doesn't sleep, she's too afraid to wake up Rainbow Dash, blah blah blah. The part with her being exhausted was okay, but the part that I liked best was how Applejack asked if she was okay. It showed that Applejack's a bit more, well, caring than RD.
Then the second horror story came along. Honestly, I found this one far more appealing than the last. (I also loved Scootaloo's story!) There were some funny moments mixed in, instead of the simple horror story that the first one was. My favorite bit:
Rainbow Dash: I've been told that these woods are haunted...by the Headless Horse! It gallops only at night—
Applejack: If it doesn't have a head, then how in tarnation does this pony know where it's goin'?
Rainbow Dash: It's headless, not brainless. ...Looking for little lost ponies—
Applejack: So where's its brain?
And then came Sweetie Belle's song, which killed me. XD I spit out my drink, especially when I saw how attentive Scootaloo looked. And Sweetie Belle falling asleep right at the end—hilarious. Scootaloo stalling so that she wouldn't have to go to sleep was also hilarious.
Then came Scootaloo's second nightmare, with the appearance of Luna. And it was okay. I mean, I am not a fan of when the show's creators just add in stuff to please the bronies, but it gave us some interesting fanfic material. Plus, it makes sense—she's the princess of the night, so of course she can enter dreams.
The bit with Scootaloo sneaking out because she was scared of the Headless Horse didn't make sense to me, but the animation was amazing again. And when she fell off of the waterfall, I was actually worried for a second . . . and then Rainbow Dash saved her, which led up to the best part of the episode yet.
Scootaloo admitting her fears to RD was believable in that she didn't exactly want to admit her fear to Dash, but she did it anyway. And for once, Rainbow Dash decided not to be a total jerkass. Instead, she soothed Scootaloo and told her that she was scared of the story as a filly, too. (The sentimentality of that kind of got wrecked when she said that she could totally take the headless horse, but whatever. It was funny anyway.)
Then we got to the rainbow falls, which were a spectacular piece of animation. Rarity and Sweetie Belle racing was adorable, but the thing that was even cuter came next.
ALL OF MY HAPPY. TAKE IT NOW.
Excellent character portrayal, remarkable animation, including Princess Luna without making it seem ridiculous . . . and all of this without showing where Scootaloo lives! Thank you, show creators, for keeping my headcanon intact!
All in all, I thought that it was the best episode of season three. Your thoughts?
It was definitely an awesome episode. My favorite pony finally got her own episode Now my other favorite just needs to get one(Celestia. I have three favorite ponies.)

Says it all, right there.
588705 Best. Animation. Ever.
That scene was actually able to draw tears to my eyes. Now, I have 100k words invested in li'l Scootaloo, but still. I found the episode pretty fantastic. I found the nightmares fairly good, and I found her running away pretty fitting with how I'VE written her, but also, I tallied it up to teen horror movie logic.
I see it as almost the perfect episode for my story.... two seasons and 220 entires ago. I had to funnel it in, earlier. It was a real "D'AWW THE FEELS" episode for me.
