The spooky symphony of Twisted Metal: Black · 10:11pm Dec 15th, 2021
Still revising the first Minion battle in Twisted Magic: Black before I move forward with the progress I’ve made on the next chapter, and since I’m currently going through a creativity block, I decided to share something relevant to the story: the fantastic soundtrack of Twisted Metal: Black.
Let’s start with the main menu theme. It begins with the opening of “Paint It, Black” by The Rolling Stones… and when that ends, it tells you all you need to know about the tone of this game’s setting.
Now, if you aren’t familiar with Black, the soundtrack for most levels are unusual for Twisted Metal: a different song is played depending on the player’s immediate circumstances.
Battle: 2 or more opponents remain and the player is close to any opponent(s).
Ambient: 2 or more opponents remain and the player is far away from all opponents.
Final: 1 opponent remains. This is the only track that plays on any level in Endurance Mode.
There are a few levels that don’t have three separate songs; they have a Final and either a Battle or Ambient track, or just a Battle track and nothing else.
Junkyard
If you jump into Story Mode immediately after starting up the game, then this level’s battle theme is the very first song you’ll hear in the game proper. It really sets the tone for what’s to come.
And the final theme? It manages to ramp up the tension even further. And did I mention that this song plays all the time in Endurance Mode?
