Still Sucks Review · 3:31am Nov 6th, 2021

Yeah I'm just as surprised as you are. Never would I imagine I would listen to a Limp Bizkit album but alas here we are. I would also like to mention that, this is one of the greatest album covers I've seen, I'm dead serious. :rainbowlaugh:

Limp Bizkit were huge during the late 90's and early 2000's. As well as being pioneers of a new genre by the name of Nu-Metal, a mix of metal and rap, often bands would have their own DJs. Other notable bands at the time that were apart of the genre were Korn, Slipknot, System of a down, etc.

Limp Bizkit has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, though I never did understand why people hated them. I've only heard a few songs from them the ones that come to mind being "Break Stuff", "Nookie", "My way", and "Rollin", they're pretty enjoyable. What convinced me to check this album out though was when they released a new single called "Dad vibes" after a decade of doing nothing. I remember thinking to myself Damn this is pretty good at the time I didn't know they were going to drop an album. So when news came out that Fred Durst would be releasing it on October 31st of this year I decided to give it a shot.

I'm not a big fan of Nu-Metal, the one band I really liked that came from the movement was Rage Against the Machine. Definitely one of the best bands to come out of the 90's.
Having said that I went into this album with low expectations and let me just say that I was pleasantly surprised. On one half you have traditional Nu-Metal songs for the fans and on the other you have songs that they wanted to experiment and try something new with, at least from what I can gather.
On this album they're also very self aware of what they are and what people think of them. You can tell they had fun making this album and didn't take it too seriously, which is always refreshing.

Songs

Out of Style
What a way to start it off! The first thing you'll notice from the song is the absolute beast that is the guitar riff being played. It catches you off guard and slaps you in the face. Fred Durst sounds great on this track and his flow his smooth.

Dirty Rotten Bizkit
This songs is much of the same as the last. The riff isn't as gruesome as the previous but it's still makes you want to bop your head. There's also a fun back an forth between high key singing and the chorus. This track also utilizes disc scratching and beatboxing which adds to it.

Dad Vibes
This track dials back the heavy metal and adds more hip hop, yet still manages to sound just as great as the previous. The lyrics are fun and very tounge and cheek. The more i listen to it the catchier it gets , definitely my favorite song off the album.

Turn it up Bitch
The song starts off with a nice bass hook and feels good to listen to. Fred Durst's delivery reminds me very much of Cypress hill and he gives a lot of energy into this one.

Don't change
On my first listening of this album this one completely caught me off guard. Primarily because it's an acoustic ballad, I remember thinking wtf why do I like it so much?. My one complaint about it though is the auto tune used on this song, it ruins it for me and sounds ugly. This song is also a cover, the original being made by an 80's band called INXS. Which is completely better than Limp Bizkit's cover.

You bring out the worst in me
It starts off soft and slowly builds up to a chorus that utilizes screaming vocals that sound pretty good coming from a guy who primarily raps. The bass on this track is also really hypnotic.

Love the Hate
I don't know why this is considered it's own song, it's more of an interlude. The gist being these guys are talking about how much they hate Limp Bizkit. One of them admits to listening to them when they were a kid which leads to him getting his ass beat by the other. It's pretty funny.

Barnacle
The instrumental on this track reminds me heavily of early Marilyn Manson, which sounds nice. The bridge also reminds me a lot of the chorus to Stone Temple Pilots' "Sex Type Thing". Sadly the lyrics on this song aren't anything special and are pretty bland.

Empty Hole
Another acoustic ballad but considering how short most of the songs on this album are this one didn't really do anything for me. There isn't much here and I tend to skip this track.

Pill Popper
Metal mixed with a hint of Dupstep, which sounds pretty good! The chorus with Fred Durst repeatedly shouting "Give me my medicine" gets annoying after a while though. The guitar riff on here is pretty cool though.

Snacky Poo
This track reins it back to the hip hop. Pretty average track, nothing that stands out but it isn't bad either. I'm not sure why they decided to put a skit at the end of the song but it's there. I just skip this song altogether.

Goodbye
The last song on the album, this one song also surprised me. It takes on a more poppy vibe, very reminiscent of 90's boy bands like NSYNC and Backstreet boys. It feels really out of place but I don't mind because it's so good. The acoustic guitar blending in with the hip hop beat sounds nice and and soft. Fred Durst's singing is actually pretty beautiful on here, I wasn't aware he was capable of it. All in all this was a great choice to end off the album.

Final thoughts
In conclusion this was a very fun album to listen to. Limp Bizkit exceeds in their Nu-Metal songs while some of their more experimental stuff is very hit or miss. Personally I wasn't fond of the songs "Empty Hole", "Pill Popper", and "Snacky Poo". Everything else was pretty good. I'd say if you can be open minded and want something new and fun to listen to I'd consider giving this album a shot. Just don't expect anything that'll blow you away, this album still has it's flaws.

If I had to rate it out of 10: 6/10
