SOUR Review · 12:41am Oct 24th, 2021

First of all I just wanted to say how I first discovered this album. Me and my family were going to this Halloween fair, the radio was set to a pop station that night. I remember after the song Faithfully by Journey ended (One of my favorite songs btw) the song "Driver's License" by Olivia Rodrigo played. I was listening to it and I thought to myself "Wow this is really good" so I looked the song up on my phone and added it to my playlist.

Later that night I listened to it while reading some stories on here and it recommended me some other songs. Those being "Deja Vu" and "Good 4 U", I loved those as well, which lead to me deciding to give the album a chance.

Let's just say I'm glad I did, this has got to be one of the best albums modern albums I've heard. Olivia's slower songs like "Traitor", "Drivers License", and "Deja Vu", are very reminiscent of pop songs from the early 2010's that I loved when I was a kid. I also loved and was surprised by the song "Brutal". I didn't expect such a heavy song (well heavy in terms of Olivia's style) to be in this. Needless to say I loved her two rock songs as well.

My only problem with this album is that the themes of the songs tend to blend in on themselves. Especially the songs "Happier" and "Enough for you". Also I didn't really like the song "1 step forward, 3 steps back" it was pretty forgettable, at least to me it was. They're all mostly about relationship problems. Which I have no problem with, that's only when all of the songs start sounding the same. Luckily that's where songs like "Jealousy Jealousy" and "Hope ur ok" come in. I haven't heard a song that dove deep into the topic of Insecurity, something I myself and many others struggle with, which made me appreciate this song. As for "Hope ur ok", Holy Shit! what a way to end it off. This song was so beautiful and it hit me in the feels not gonna lie. I wouldn't be surprised if this song saved people.

All in all, this album was phenomenal! I can find myself coming back to it. I'll be looking forward to whatever she has planned for the future. I'm surprised really, I'm mostly into older music. My music taste mostly compromises of Rock, more specifically Classic, Grunge, Metal, Punk, etc. It's not only rock, I Also love Rap, Pop, Funk/Disco, Latín, etc. So it's great to see modern music has still got it and that there is great stuff out there, you just gotta search for it.

If I had to rate it out of 10: 8/10

Favorite Songs

  • Brutal
  • Traitor
  • Drivers License
  • Deja Vu
  • Good 4 U
  • Jealousy Jealousy
  • Favorite Crime
  • Hope ur ok
