One Year FIMFic-iversary! · 6:30pm Oct 21st, 2021
Howdy!
So as the title of this blog post would suggest, today marks my one year on FIMFiction! Pretty crazy that a year ago I made this account intending to post one story and that was it. I wrote Sweet, Sweet Record O’ Mine because I love AppleDash and I wanted to write one story for this fandom. In fact, I only wrote it pretty much as a convoluted joke because I was still kind of just very new to the fandom and thought it’d be weird to write stories about ponies. I wrote a ship fic because I liked writing those, and it was a simple little thing. Nothing special. I then also wrote Just Fine because I was having a weird night and wanted to let that out somewhere. For some reason, I chose ponies. At this point, I said “okay, two stories that's enough.”
Then a few days after that, in November, I wanted to participate in NaNoWriMo. I open an empty doc with no plan at all on November first, and I only had a few hours til midnight. I panic a bit and let my fingers just type and the first two words that I type on a whim were “Rainbow Dash”. Through the entirety of November, I wrote Under The Light Of Dusk, making up the entire story pretty much as I went. It’s really loose and definitely not a great story, but it was my first real completed chaptered story that was long. Obviously, it took me a long time to upload (I had been sitting on it a lot and ended up adding 10k words to it) but I’ve been eager to write the sequel since (I’m working on it!!!)
At this point there’s no turning back. I had joined Quills and Sofas Speedwriting in like, late December/early January, but never really did anything until February. I bring them up because they are one of the only reason I’ve written as much as I have. My writing pace and quality has dramatically increased since joining them, and I’ve managed an average of 2.5 stories a month thanks to them (of course this isn’t accurate since I had that one month where I uploaded 6 stories) and I find that reading my older stuff makes me cringe beyond cringe. Everyone there has helped me improve, so QnS, if any of you are reading this, thank you.
Enough talk about the past. We get it. I’ve written a lot past the one story I intended to write. Let’s talk more about now.
I think I’ve changed a lot. I’m not sure what genre of writing I would be more known for (not that I’d be known at all, I’m not like a well known author), but I definitely find it more in my comfort zone to write things laced with deep emotion (you can blame Krickis for writing stuff that influenced me quite a bit, though she does it infinitely better). Stuff like Obelus (which is the only fic I will ever accept praise for), or Remember come to mind. I’m not sure though. What do y’all think is my “genre”? I’ve always been curious about what people think of me as an author. What makes my writing my writing? Is there something about my writing that makes people go “ah yeah, that's an applejackofalltrades story”? If any of you have any answers to those or related questions please let me know, I’m very curious.
I mentioned these earlier, but I’ll do a quick talk about current projects. I mentioned Letting Go Of The Reins in my last blog post. It’s been a month since the last chapter (WHOOPS) but I plan to have the next chapter out soon. It’s definitely going to be going in the direction I intended soon >:). It’s a side project I write for when I have some time or energy, but I really love it so much.
As for main projects, Ice Road To Something More is one I’ve been working on for months. I’ve brought it up briefly (it’s that AppleDash fic I’ve been talking about) but I’ll give some more insight to it now. It’s been in the works since April, and I have since written 35k words for it. As I said last time, it’s a romance story mixed with a bit of an adventure-y side to it (though I wouldn’t tag it as adventure). Very very briefly, the basic gist of it is that Rainbow Dash and Applejack go on a friendship mission. Can’t wait to finish that one off.
Though, short term projects, I’m currently writing my entry for the Sunset Shimmer X Sunset Shimmer Shipping Contest. It’ll be done real soon, I just gotta get it written, sent to the wonderful pre-reader Sunlight Rays who generously agreed to preread for this one, and make cover art. This one has been... interesting to write since so far, everything has been squarely written between 2-5am haha. I hope that despite the strange premise, it’ll go over well :)
Again, still a bunch of other random smaller stuff in the works, but I won’t get into those.
Once more, I find myself in awe of how many nice people are around. I’ve been here only a year and I’ve reached 169 followers! That’s so cool. Once again, thank y’all a lot! I don’t plan on leaving this fandom any time soon, so I plan on writing many more stories. I just hope y’all stick around to see them and enjoy them :) Your kind words and feedback keep me writing.

Honestly, 169 followers in a year does look impressive to me and I have to congratulate you for it. After all, I've been here 6 months longer than you and I've still got only 56 followers... ree. But anyway, happy anniversary! 🎉

I haven't read anything of yours in so long, I'm gonna read Obelus soon as I can. I've got a few things I've told people I would read that I need to get to first, but then it's gonna go down because I need to see how far your writing has come!

Yeah, true. Unlike you, I'm not much of a one-shot writer; out of my 11 stories, only 2 are one-shots, and a decent chunk of my stories go well over 10,000 words.

That’s fair! I just like writing and seeing what people think so one shots/shorter stories are my go-to. But I love writing longer things! I just haven't been able to post any really hehehe
