Good evening, folks. This is Mr. J here with another movie review for tonight. For our Disney Friday this evening, I will be reviewing a particular Disney classic that I honestly didn’t have a high opinion about: Oliver and Company. I came across this film a long time ago as a kid and actually watched both the trailer and the film, I think, back in one of the schools I attended around that time. Ever since then, it really never appealed to me as much as most Disney fans who loved it. The only times I’ve watched it was a couple years ago and then just a month ago for another rewatch. The more I watched this film, the more I started to like it and appreciate it.

First off, the animation looks kinda sloppy in some places such as the background colors and the character designs for the humans in the background. Despite that, it looked very decent enough especially since it was released back in 1988.

Secondly, I enjoyed this film’s premise and story that hooked my interest to a degree. Here we have a little cat with no home, no family, and no friends being left alone as all the other kittens were taken to adoption. He runs to and fro to look for a place called home although in vain. Soon after, he encounters a cool-looking dog with persuasion, sass, and an amusing personality to back him up. Dodger sees this cat and sees the potential he has to be just like him. Thus, Oliver gets himself into a new adventure that will change his life and bring him into the next level of happiness.

The plot was well-written as it was very entertaining to look at along with the impressive voice acting and the enjoyable characters the movie brought before us. My favorite character in this is Tito since he was hilarious with his lines and personality. Actually, it’s all thanks to Cheech Marin (who later on voiced Banzai in 1994’s The Lion King) for making him such a funny character.

Even the main antagonist was quite interesting. Sykes (voiced by the late Robert Loggia) was actually sorta menacing as a loan shark and a threat to Oliver and his new friends despite the little screen time he had. Even his Doberman dogs were intimidating! Harley Quinn’s hyenas got nothing on those bad boys!

Lastly, the character interaction between Oliver and Jenny were really heartwarming and adorable. As someone who loves cats, it touched my heart to see Oliver so happy to be with someone who actually cares for him and loves him. This whole film shows us that no matter where you’ve come from or who you are, you’ll still have friends and family by your side all the way. Never take them for granted.

So despite the issues I have with the animation, it’s still a pretty good wholesome movie that I would recommend. It gets an 8/10.

Peace.

Sykes' death was definitely best left off screen.

Oooh this movie! I really liked it but my sister didn´t. Oliver and his company is based on Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, did you know?

This movie is very underrated this movie and the Great Mouse Detective (will you be reviewing that movie if you watched it?) played an important part in the transition to the Disney Rennaissance (movies from the Little Mermaid to Tarzan) because at the time CGI was starting and being introduced to animation. These two movies were the first Disney movies to have CGI elements.

I love animation history so much.
