    Steel's undead hunting amps

Originally, I had planned to include a large scale battle at Rose’s Blossom during the Festival Arc, culminating with Steel and Raven battling Nightcrawler as he’s about to kill Roseluck and Sunset. Ultimately, I decided that I wanted to go a different route, since it didn’t feel like it would mesh well with the tone of the story. However, when I was drafting and outlining the chapters, I

    Next chapter delayed a bit

    Hey all.

Field season really kicked into gear in early April, so I've been getting home exhausted pretty much every day. That and a bout of creative block means the next chapter of Phoenix-born is probably not going to be out until mid-May at the earliest.

Hazbin Hotel Episode 1 - I'm not sure I'm going to keep watching.

So, after however many years, we finally get Hazbin Hotel. I've been waiting for it to come out since I saw the pilot. When the first episode dropped, I watched it before checking out any reviews or commentary, because I wanted to go in without any preconceptions clouding my view of the series.

And honestly, I'm not sure I'm going to keep watching.

Working on the next chapter, and realizing something I wish I could do.

So, as I've written more of Rising, I've come to realize that there's something I wish I could do with the formatting. Namely, I wish I could have two columns of text, one that would represent the main narrative from Sunset's external perspective, and one that could be used for when Sunset and Philomena are sending, or when Philomena is sharing her perspective. I don't know how easy something

Phoenix-born updates going to slow down again. · 7:33pm Sep 30th, 2021

Hey everyone.

Sorry to bear bad news again, but I'm going to have to slow down my updates to Phoenix-born to "whenever I have time" for the foreseeable future. Graduation is looming, I'm still scrambling to get my research finished so I can actually write my fracking thesis, and I'm going to have to rework what I was expecting to write after that little curveball last chapter threw me (Sapphire and Sunset's meeting at the end wasn't originally planned). Rest assured, I'm not abandoning the project. I want to at least get it to a place where I can say that it's at a logical stopping point before calling Phoenix-Born Rising done and going to the Selenian side of things.

In the meantime, I'm going to try to do some drawings of the Phoenix-born, just to keep the fire lit while I deal with the next three months of grinding.
So, to start us off, here's one of General Sentry, Vestian, and Steel's three main amps: Bloodhound, Sun's Fang, and Ironsides.

Ironsides, and by extension, sun-blade tactical armor as a whole, is based on the prototype TALOS armor that was being developed by the US Military.

And a shame, but that's life I guess.

Yeah, that's very tokusatsu-y. :)

It's cool. Real Life before ponies (or colorful humans). Will be nice to see more art. Practice makes master.

Entirely understandable. Best of luck on all fronts.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Vestian looks angry.

I look forward to what ever you can do and of course, best of luck with school!

It kinda did end up sorta toku-y, didn't it. In story it's more like a combination of the prototype TALOS armor that was being developed by the US Army

and Jhon-117's Mjölnir armor

only with chain-mail covering the the gaps in the armor plates and worn over a thin, padded bodysuit meant to prevent chafing and negate some blunt-force impact.

Eh, such is the limit of my artistic ability.

Thanks for understanding. I'd honestly rather be writing, but I'm stuck with being a responsible adult. Ugh.

Thanks. And yea, Vestian kinda does. Funny thing is, that's actually because of the feather pattern around his eyes making him look like he's perpetually scowling. It's one of those: "You look angry." "I can't help it. My face is just built like this." "Okay…" situations.

In a good way, I hope. I'm trying to keep the tactical armor somewhat practical if slightly fantastic.

hey no problem. You do what you need we'll be here waiting.

We aint goin nowhere.

Don't worry about it Voice, deal with real life, and we'll all be surprised and excited when we get a chapter update out of nowhere sometime in the future.

I've been thinking about the potential solutions for Sapphire's problem, and the immediate and long term consequences that come with them.

The first could be that Sapphire renounces her family, and serve the Cathedral of the Sun instead. If I recall correctly, some nobles would become monks or nuns, rather than inherit their family's titles. Going along this path, she could eventually work up to being Sunset's attendant, or something similar.

A similar option would be to have her suffer under her family for a few years until Sunset gets her own estate in the Western Territory, and she offers her a place to stay, along with a fresh start.

The main issue I see with these is that it interferes with Raven's long game. Ideally, if Sapphire could inherit her mother's title and estate, it would be another sympathetic Noble. If Sapphire is disowned, that change of heart would all go to waste. I'm thinking that even if Raven could intervene somehow, I'm not sure if she would.

Another option would be to arrange some kind of meeting between the two. I doubt anyone could really refuse an invitation from a Phoenix-born. I'm just not sure what kind of meeting could be arranged after the open hostility the two showed to each other, and the facade they have to maintain.

The best immediate option I can think of is the two of them sending letters to each other. Sunset is already an avid writer, so I don't think adding another friend to the list would be too much of a hassle. Dawn Wings already seems invested in their relationship, and could easily pass letters to Sapphire undetected. Of course, she would screen the contents to make sure Sunset doesn't accidentally release confidential information, and there would be a strict burn after reading policy to make sure the rest of the Prism family doesn't find the letters. This would at least provide some moral support from Sunset. In the longer run of things, this could lead to Sapphire aiding Sunset in gathering blackmail material on the rest of the Prism family.

Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot to me.

@jardex22
One of those is indeed the route that I'm thinking. Which one it'll be will be revealed once I have time to outline things.
