The My Little Pony: A New Generation Movie (SPOILERS AHEAD) · 11:05pm Sep 24th, 2021

Wow, that was an adventure in a half! So I've just watched the My Little Pony: A New Generation movie, and I've gotta say they did pretty good with it all things considered. Thus; my analysis shall cominse! (This might be a bit long. SPOILERS AHEAD!)

Ok, I'm still gonna try to keep it underleveled in terms of spoilers, but I highly doubt I'll be able to withhold some of this stuff. First of all, main characters. Yep, still likeable and lovable. (Izzy is 100% Pinkie Pie re-incarnated) Each character had their own personalities and seemed to stick with it for the most part. While some (one, look'n at you Pipp) I didn't really find enjoying, the rest I loved to no avail. But at the same time, that's my own personal thoughts. I'm sure in time she'll grow on me. (Same thing happened to me with Rarity not gonna lie)

At the beginning of the film, that little (but honestly very nice) nod to Gen 4 was very nice. Hearing those voices one last time really hit home that we're changing books here. It may be connected, but it's gonna have a whole new slew of chapters for us to enjoy. Still, I do hope they keep reminders of Gen 4 every here and there. (Or at least some context as to what in the heck happened!)

The plot... yeah it was basically exactly what I'd expected. It's nice and a great story to kick of Gen 5, but it still felt fairly tame. (Yet again, that's perfectly normal considering it is technically designed with little girls in mind). I did enjoy some of the elements of it though, especially seeing the relics of the past, even if there were only a couple. I swear when the Wonderbolts poster was shown in that abandoned depo, I shed a tear. They better save that thing, I swear to the sun and moon they better. And at times, the movie did get me moving, especially with the Dad. Honestly, I'd imagined he might not be there when the trailers were first released. But seeing it actually happen still hit hard. He seemed like such an awesome pony, and I wish we could have seen more of him.

The villain plot I didn't really like. But at the same time, I respect it. That's because there weren't really any legitimate moves the makers could of made with this film in terms of bad guys. Unless the excuse is 'plot', there really aren't any openings here for anything greater than what we got. Still, a 'brainwashed' colt in a stallion's body getting a highly powered tool and using it solely because he was blinded by the propaganda he'd been fed since birth. Eh, could of been worse. (Could of just chucked some cliche dark villain in there for no reason aside from plot.) So, I'd say it doesn't really drag down the plot all things considered. You've just gotta take a step back and remember the whole picture (picture being Equestria). A lot has happened, and things need to get set up before massive things are able to occur. Gotta start small, and build up from there. (A good choice storywise, like an appetizer for the main characters. Can't just chuck an unruly demon or something at them on the first turn. Once they rise above that, what would be challenging? Another powerful creature even worse than the first? It would get repetitive very fast.)

I think the best part about the movie though, was the world. I have tons of questions and theories buzzing around my head right now, and I know that one day I'm gonna be pumping out stories about them. That's what I loved about Gen 4, diving into the mysteries behind the camera and see just how that world ticks. For example; Why was Sunny's father the only researcher on the Mane six? Where did all the old cities go? Are there still remnants of them, left to rot and decay somewhere? How were those three crystals made? Who made them? What happened to Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Twilight, and Flurry Heart? What about Discord, where'd he wind up? WHY DID EQUESTRIA LOSE ITS MAGIC IN THE FIRST PLACE!

That final question agitates me to no end. Seriously! How did it happen!? The literal Princess of Friendship was in charge the last time we saw that planet. How did everything change so drastically!

Oh I'm craving answers, and I absolutely love it. Mysteries, I'm such a sucker for them.

Overall, I honestly did enjoy this movie. A nice and fairly strong way to kick off Gen 5, and I eagerly await what comes next!

The stuff after this isn't movie stuff. It's more on me, so don't worry about it if you just wanted to read my review. (Not really great in all honestly. This was the first I've ever published.)

This movie, it's a shining beacon for me right now. The days leading up to it, I'd gotten hit with a very bad wave of Depression. Things weren't going very well, and I was getting overwhelmed. But this movie did exactly what Gen 4 did, keep my spirits and hope up. I truly felt happy watching it, which was ten times better than the week prior. The My Little Pony franchise really helps me in these situations, and I'm forever grateful because of it. I look forward to seeing Gen 5 stories on this site, and I'll be ready to offer my own once I get my current stories under control.

(STILL WORKING ON A FORGOTTEN TROOPER! I'VE BEGUN REMASTERING STUFF AGAIN, SO IT HOPEFULLY SHOULDN'T BE VERY LONG BEFORE NEW CHAPTERS GET RELEASED)

Just, bear with me here for a bit. Sorry... :derpytongue2:
