The End of my First University Course · 6:24pm Dec 6th, 2012

Update: I ended up with an A- in this class. Not bad for spending the majority of it writing about ponies.

On Monday December 3rd, I went to my final day of class. Since I've never been to University prior to this, I wanted to only take one class this semester to ease myself in. I took an introduction to writing fiction. My prof was really great and allowed me to write about pony, so I did for most of the assignments. I only received some flak for it at first, but that didn't last long, and one of my classmates ended up watching the show! Too bad he likes Applejack best, though.

Anyway, for the last 4 weeks or so of class, we were preparing to write a 1,000-2,000 word short story. All homework prior to that was first drafts based on a prompt of some sort. This was meant to be well-written and all that fun stuff. Anyway, I spent most of my homework writing Repercussions backstory, and let me say, it actually helped me a lot with understanding my story, particularly the OC.

What the final class consisted of -- because writing courses are exam-free -- was a 2-3 minute reading of an excerpt from your final piece. So naturally I stood up in front of my class and read pony fanfiction. Some of my friends demanded that I record the reading, so I did. Obviously, for those who haven't read Repercussions yet, or have not at least read about eleven or twelve chapters, then this will contain spoilers. You need to have read all fifteen chapters currently published in order to be completely spoiler-free.

One little disclaimer: for some reason, nerves really struck me at first. I think it was because I had to wait over 90 minutes before I finally got my turn (we drew names from a hat), so my pacing was off and I flubbed a few words. I didn't really hit my stride until later, but by the end I felt pretty good. I feel minimal amounts of spaghetti was spilled. It's odd, really, since I had no trouble speaking up in class (that class was very discussion-oriented). I guess it's reading something pony -- that I wrote -- in front of a room of students and my prof. I've never really read a story I've written to somebody else before. Yeah, reading short stuff you've written in class for an exercise is one thing, but this was a whole other animal. Good thing I plan to take some acting electives later on, as it will help with this sort of thing.

Oh, and why I brought Dash to class: we were encouraged to dress up as one of the characters from our story, thought it wasn't required. I don't have the means nor the intention to dress up as an alicorn or a black dragon, and since I was reading a pony story, I did the next best thing.

lol I do remember college. Kinda miss it. Too bad I dropped out after three years.

And excellent reading, by-the-way. Is this story going to be posted here anytime soon?

Too bad he likes Applejack best, though.

Yeah... Dashie is BEST pony!

Good to be welcoming another into the Herd though!

Thank you! I may end up publishing all of the stuff I did for University in an independent story or a blog sometime. I haven't decided what I want to do with all of the short Repercussions backstories I've written. In addition to this, I've written a couple stories about when Cosmo and the others were little.

580499 Ok... you HAVE my attention lol

I'd have to redraft and clean them up before I publish them, of course. I'm just not sure if it'd be better as just a blog post, or a three "chapter" (they'd just be different short stories) story post, with a disclaimer that it won't make much sense if you haven'r read Repercussions. Speaking of cleaning stuff up, I'm thinking my break time should be over soon, so hopefully I can get chapter 16 finished somewhere around 1 and 3 Wednesdays from now.

580515 I would recommend posting as a multi-chapter story, for more views

I was thinking that too, but on the other hoof, the stories are rather pointless if the reader hasn't read Repercussions, as they'd otherwise look like me writing about my self-insert OC alicorn Mary Sue or something.

580541 And that is why you add the disclaimer stating that they NEED to read (hey thats a rhyme. did good this time) Repercussions first, and then they can have discussions later. (I'm a poet, and I know it!)
