very, very, very experimental fic continues its slow progress as the deadline for bicyclette's sci-fi contest draws near. these chapters are about on-par with what if in terms of length, but oh boy have they been an interesting experience to write.

What if Equestrian girls wasn't an alternate universe but the far distant future and the portal unbeknown to everyone simply a time machine, with the character in this prompt being the last practitioner of the forgotten skill of magic, which everyone ridiculed calling him a fake. Goblins being the first of the many threats from the bygone era.
