In Her Shadow, a new short story in the WWB verse · 7:49pm Aug 18th, 2021
I've got something that I've actually been sitting on for months, but I only just now was able to get cover art for it. It's a bonus story to Thicker Than Water, and unlike other recent WWB fics, this one's written by me. It's around 3k long, and it'll come out on Friday so I have time to go through it and edit once more (since it's just been sitting for a few months). Details and cover below the break!
Lightning Dust's career has been an impressive one. After forming Bitchette with Rainbow Dash and playing on their first two albums, she formed another successful band with The Washouts. But still, touring as a support act for Bitchette forces her to reflect on her fame in relation to Rainbow's, and she does not like what she finds...
If it needs to be said at this point, the cover was by my usual collaborator Pasu! The initial cover idea was by my writing partner Gowak, but Pasu took it and pushed the idea much further into this truly beautiful cover. I adore it.
As you can gather from the description above, the story is about Lightning Dust and her relationship with Rainbow. Specifically, it's about what it was like for Dust to tour as part of The Washouts in support of Bitchette. This was a band she co-founded, and now she's just their opening act. For someone with Dust's ego and competitiveness, this is a hard pill to swallow. It also goes in-depth into how Dust and Rainbow met, and the interactions that led to forming Bitchette in the first place.
