Season 2 Mini Episode 7 Up! (Aug 9th) · 9:14pm Aug 9th, 2021
Hello my lovely readers. Today’s Mini Episode 7, Space Race.
This one’s a little bit different. As a direct follow up to the previous one, it takes a bit more of a dramatic tack. But I think many of you will like the results.
A few production spoilers:
The concept of a space race was one of the very first mini ideas Blue and I came up with. We wanted Rodrigo and Preta to race each other, but we never knew the context until now. Given the fallout from Mini 6, I thought this an opportune moment to use the concept in a way that made sense with the plot.
We had a few drafting issues with this one. In particular, the scene near the end where they end up in a tapas bar? That was Moff rescuing me from my original version, which just had Rodrigo calling for a couch in the otherwise empty holodeck. Which… worked… but it carried with it a NUMBER of awful connotations I hadn’t even considered until Moff pointed them out, at which point we exchanged for more of Rodrigo being Rodrigo.
Thank you also again to Moff for some of the Spanish details. He helped Spanish up Rodrigo more than Rodrigo already was.
See you next Wednesday my lovely readers for a mini episode that checks in on a couple of characters we haven’t seen for a while. Who might they be? Well the title should give you a hint: “Parental Concerns.” Bye for now~
Oh I see. We're going to be checking in on T'Lona and Amina next week.
...OH. I didn't even think of the couch thing, either! XD
... I suspect something is flying right over my head here, because I've got no clue what those connotations would be.

Ah, well... it was bringing up the suggestion of a casting couch. Which, to quote Wikipedia, is "a euphemism for the practice of soliciting sexual favors from a job applicant in exchange for employment in the entertainment industry, primarily acting roles. The practice is illegal in the United States."
To say that would be simultaneously both inappropriate and not remotely in the least what I was going for is putting it mildly. Even the suggestion of such a thing is something I wanted to avoid, so avoid it I did.
