Good Morning · 9:09pm Jul 6th, 2021
So i uhh… I went dark for a bit. June was incredibly busy, and I did not write for the entirety of it. I had a few busy days that set me back, and getting added to a second research project I wasn’t expecting really threw a wrench in my writing plans. On top of a stretch where I was in my bag thanks to burnout and bad mental, it ended up with me completely unmotivated to write. I don’t think I wrote a word for 31 days.
But, the storm has passed, and my summer classes will be done this week. I am in the process of moving and finishing up that class, but I have started writing and will have plenty of time to make progress. I’ll be updating the word count just after writing this blog.
Where does that leave the story I’m working on? I’m in the midst of chapter 8, and should be done either today or Thursday. I’m closing in on the end of the “first act” (chapter 12). During May and June, I realized that writing out the entire thing before posting seems great until you get 20k words in. I want to share this with the world, and once I hit that point of the first act, I’ll ensure that the outline of the second act is completely thorough so that I can do my editing passes and include any details that might be important for foreshadowing the second act.
So I have a question to ask anyone who reads this far (hello there!), since I’m wondering how I should release this story.
Option 1: Release all 12 chapters in one large drop.
The reason I’m considering this option is because it really marks a shift in the story, more-so than any of the individual chapters. It would also give me the freedom to drop the next batch all at once, and quite honestly, I’m not sure how long it will take to write the second batch.
Option 2: Weekly release schedule (for the first twelve chapters). I would like this to be a story with a lot of interaction in the comments, uncovering the pieces as it goes with those who enjoy it. This would also give me a bit more exposure with each release, which isn’t the most important but is something to consider. The main drawback is that I would have to complete the entire second act in 3 months in order to maintain that weekly upload schedule, which is doable but also might compromise quality. Of course, I could just rescind the weekly upload schedule later to give myself time, but then why go for the weekly schedule in the first place?
So, any input on this would be greatly appreciated, because as it stands (if I continue on my current pace), I’ll be able to publish the first 12 chapters by the end of July, editing and all. I will announce a release date by the end of the month. I’m really excited for how this is turning out, and thanks to everyone who has helped me out this far. I’m glad to be writing again.
