Season 2 Mini-Episode 2 Up! (June 30th) · 9:29pm Jun 30th, 2021

Hello my lovely readers! Season 2’s second mini-episode is now up!

Today’s feature is a bit more tense than the previous one, owing to our subject. It follows our subject character through a couple of years of the timeline, culminating in them reaching synchronous time with the main story.

This short addresses the character of Alma Smith. Although she’s similar to Applejack, we never set out to create lots of alternates of MLP characters. In fact we wanted to avoid this, and in retrospect I would have created someone more original, or used a character that would later be a part of the series (like Hill or Wattson) in her place.

Alma was originally made to be a one-shot filler character for one of Sunset’s years at the Academy. That was it. Then I needed a character to join her on the ride to the Enterprise and I picked Smith as the most developed of the Academy roommates.

And then… I gave in to impulsiveness. Her whole relationship thing with Sunset? Yeah, that wasn’t planned. I justified it in retrospect by arguing Sunset needed to be able to show she makes mistakes, and that she needed at least one bad relationship because she’d been mentioned to never have had any before, but…

I wish I hadn’t done it. I really wish I hadn’t. It caused a lot of issues and confusion, and to be frank, it was a mistake.

But it was done. So we had to live with the consequences in the story, and this is how we’re justifying her whole existence. These messages will be followed up on in the Mini-episodes to come after the main episode that posts on July 5th.

Will this be the last time we see her? Hard to say. She was never meant to be a big important character. But we might. We’ll see.

Have a good week my lovely readers, and see you Monday for the third full episode of season three: “Ghosts.”

I hope to see Alma in future chapters, but I can understand why you might want to go back and edit all that out.

Eh, I think Alma fits into the story pretty well myself.

Well it's not so much edit out as, she wasn't planned to be involved to begin with. When I went to Blue and expressed these regrets weeks ago, we came up with the plot for this Mini episode. It was originally going to be part of a mainline episode till we decided to do the Minis, but regardless it was intended as a way to close out her primary involvement with the story.

But as I've said she can always show up again at some point. There's a point in the future where I can see it happening, and be justified. (And I mean beyond just messages passing back and forth, which will happen, though I dunno how many of those would be on screen.) I still haven't decided if she fits in there yet or not though.

Yes, she fits with it so far, but I can see how her involvement could eventually take the story in a direction they don't want to go. I'm not saying it would be bad, just not intended or possibly not to the authors' taste, but with so many people on this, I'm sure they could make it work.

Whether she fits in is highly dependent on the story you want to tell, although you could just roll with it and let the story tell itself. It's all a matter of preference. Either way, I've been enjoying the story a lot. I would comment more, but work and stuff keeps me busy, plus there are a few people whose comments I don't care to read, ya know? Especially on Trek crossovers, they get a bit toxic and nitpicking. Anyway, just know that even though I'm not saying so every chapter, I like what ya'll have put together. Cheers. :moustache:

I hear you. You're not the only one who's been rarer with the comments than they would be otherwise thanks to some toxicity. I'm considering whether or not I want to start cleaning up those comments a bit. Or at least ask certain perpetrators to cool it. Thank you though, I really do appreciate it.
