So hopping along, the next of the Young Six I'm gonna pull out is Smolder. (This time it's only semi-random: remember me mentioning semillon last week? Yeah, I'm having to actually sort this series to make sure not to feature them twice in a row.) So who am I gonna pull out first for Scoota-dragon?

Right. A month or so ago I mentioned that I was getting ready to launch some bigger thematic batches of stories, which is why I was trying to clear up my new authors folder. The bigger one of those was a focus series on the Student Six, which I'd planned to start as soon as a month came up with five Wednesdays.

…Yeah I was supposed to start it last week. Bother.

Followers vs. Account Age: A pointless data review: The Return

Earlier today, I was shooting the shit with Aklinstar about some of the statistics blogs I've done in the past and I noticed there was one I never did an update/follow-up on. I promptly dropped everything to do exactly that, which is because I'm deeply interested in stats and data and not at all because I'm frustrated with the way my

Okay, so changing gears again-again. This time mostly because I have no time. This is one of those weeks where everything happens at once, and I've been positively hopping with how little free time I've got.

But that's no excuse not to talk about how absolutely cool stories are, and honestly I've made it this long without missing an update so I'm hardly going to start now.

Let's get this one out of the way a little early so I don't do another oopsie.

First story today is The Only Tree In The Forest by Hap.

This story is fascinating. I'm not even entirely sure how to describe it without giving away everything, and even then it's just so damn unique. It's a story about a major character in the series who's frequently overlooked. It's from the perspective of a non-sentient character. It's composed of tiny flash-fic sized chapters. It's heartrending. It is one of the most original stories on the site and I absolutely love it.

All told from the perspective of a tree.

With it, we have Cat's Eye View by Applezombi.

Another from a non-pony perspective, this story follows the adventure of a stray black tomcat around Ponyville. And a dashing cat he is! A valiant mouser and Opalescence's rakish lover, the protagonist (a cat of many names) gets involved in an adventure to battle against The Purple-Maned Tyrant who tries to keep him separated from his love.

It's a wonderful tale that would be a short, solid adventure for any character but coming from the perspective of a cat gives the whole thing a comedic, farcical bent that keeps it hopping nicely. And anybody who's owned a cat will be pretty familiar with the protag's perspective and attitude.

That first one is absolutely beautiful, I remember it getting me even though I'd worked out the reveal some time in advance. Just lovely work.
