    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Rise of Firefly: Second Offensive - Chapter 5 draft complete · 9:06pm Jun 28th, 2021

It’s with prereaders now, delayed by my workload, which has resulted in nearly 40 extra hours worked over the past two and a half weeks--and I damn well better get some comp time for that! Unfortunately, even when prereaders finish with the new chapter, it’s not ready yet--I still have to make some graphics and do song selections for it, which will take some time. So I ask your indulgence for a little longer. It may be a week, or it may be less, but the new chapter release is coming.

The new chapter currently stands at 11.5k words, and given what usually happens in my editing passes, it’ll probably be at 12.5k words when all is said and done. A nice meaty chapter, and for those of you ready for battle scenes again, this chapter will deliver the story’s first combat action of the Equestrian Army at a breakneck pace.

Prereaders so far seemed pleased with it, as am I. But because it’s so fast-paced, graphics will be critical to understand its course. It’ll take me a couple evenings of work, at least, to make them in Photoshop, and evenings where I’m free have been scarce of late. We’ll have to see how this week goes...

PS: And for those looking for more Feathered Hearts, I did start into the next main story chapter today, putting down the first 1000 words on it. So that’s on the way as well.

We're braced and ready for an Onslaught of Words!

Out of curiosity, any progress on Dominion Academy?

I love how much Rock Biter reads like a laundry list of my writing habits from the mid to late 2010's! :rainbowlaugh:

Can't wait to leave a comment on it.

Your two throwback longposts were very much appreciated!

Unfortunately, no. :ajsleepy: I haven’t touched that in a while. It’s very hard to get motivated when there’s no feedback on it. Understand, I want to finish it, but I can’t without stopping all my other writing for many months. If I could clone or install a multithreading processor in my brain to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, I would.

All I can say for now is, I haven’t forgotten in and do intend to finish, but it’s just not my first priority right now.
