The last research paper I worked on has published at last.

The process is REALLY slow. I finished all my work on this 3 years ago.

    https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2316969121

This one uses a lot of my histology and in-situ hybridization with RNAscope results.

But no more science for me. Now I build houses and driveways... and rip them apart too! It's a sort of yin-yang thing I've got going here.

A comedic scene from a new Clouseua story I'm fiddling with...

I just came up with this, and imagining Peter Sellers delivering the line had me laughing for 5 minutes straight.

Clouseau, "For you see, the murderer was... the bullet!"

    Guy in room, "The bullet?"

Clouseau, "Of course, no one would suspect the bullet of firing itself!"

Woman in room, "But that... that's madness!"

Last call for Bronycon items up on Ebay!

I'll be delisting all remaining MLP items Sept 1st to focus entirely on selling my huge stash of collectible magazines, which take up vastly more space than the MLP items. Everything here fits into a single flat box I can pick up with one hand. The magazines... weigh over 700 lbs total. Sooooo, kinda makes sense to deal with those ASAP!

Another block by another coward who's wrong about war · 6:46pm Jun 21st, 2021

I do so love when people block me for making point they clearly can't offer a rational argument against.

Since the 1950's, the only 2 wars the US has won were BOTH against Saddam Hussein, because he was a complete psycho braggart not even his elite troops were willing to die for. And even that turned into a mess.

I don't give a rat's rear about partisan whatever when it comes to war. The modern rules of engagement put together by the political hacks who send others to die while they rake in BILLIONS in contracts and graft simply don't work. They drag out what should be brief conflicts and make them even messier and more costly. And the 'bad guys' don't bother playing by the rules regardless... like using civilians as meat shields and employing poison gas.

You go in to win, or just stay home and wait to be enslaved by the badasses who just want to conquer the world and are willing to wipe out billions to do it (basically the CCP now).

As with all things, I will be proven correct. And as I read China's mounting hostility and unambiguous imperial goals, it shan't be much longer.

China has nukes. We could just send in some special forces with the stereotypical briefcase nukes, set them off, and then deny everything if they try to point the finger at us and say that it was them handling the things like idiots and then blaming someone else when they screw up. Just a thought.

I take issue with some of the things that you say. But not this.

5538898 I seriously wonder how many of their nukes would actually detonate. China's internal corruption is STAGGERING. Things not used for decades are the perfect place to skim tons of money off the top with inferior parts and not risk being caught.

Their domestic construction is getting so bad that new buildings and bridges are just falling down. I saw a case of the entire central staircase of an apartment complex collapsed, stranding the residents inside.

China Uncensored on Youtube shows a lot of this. BUT, this only makes the CCP and PLA even MORE belligerent, as they must not show any weakness. They are MORE willing to wage war as their system implodes, as a way to get rid of excess population, artificially boost their sagging economy, and potentially seize territory and resources.

5538899 The more swiftly you make the enemy realize you're not playing games, the sooner they'll surrender AND the less likely anyone else will wish to start something.

Peace through strength. Pacifism and capitulation is how we got WWII. Cruel leaders bent on conquest see treaties as little more than used toilet paper.

I assume you don't actually want this stuff to happen. It's just that the only people in a position to make things better are the ones who benefit the most from the status quo.

5538900
Which is why we could claim they screwed up handling one of their own big boomers and we'd be believed by the international community. A little fried Beijing here, some toasted military complexes there, and then we just wait for North Korean to step out of line to give our B-52 crews an excuse for live-fire exercises. The Far East is no longer hot and we can get back to giving Russia the stink eye in peace.

I didn't pay attention in my 10th grade history class whats going on

"Since the 1950's, the only 2 wars the US has won were BOTH against Saddam Hussein, because he was a complete psycho braggart not even his elite troops were willing to die for. And even that turned into a mess."
Yeah, I think it's debatable whether we even won those.

"You go in to win, or just stay home and wait to be enslaved by the badasses who just want to conquer the world and are willing to wipe out billions to do it (basically the CCP now)."
Well, I do think there's a third option: stay home in heavily armed neutrality.

But, yeah, the American empire isn't even functioning well for the USA anymore, and hasn't been for some time now. The only people it does seem to be functioning well for are a small elite class in a position to profit off everyone else's expenses ("If the weapons system is already a decade late and a billion over budget while being inferior to what our enemies have and actively dangerous to our soldiers, that just means we can give even more money to the defense contractors, who will promptly slip some of it back to me under the table, to fix it!"). And unfortunately for everyone, those people don't seem to be the best at looking after the long term prospects of themselves and their families.

(Though I do get the impression we may disagree on the solution, with you, it sounds like, wanting to rekindle the empire and reestablish US global dominance? Whereas I tend to think that that's not even possible at this point and might well not be desirable even if it was, and favor withdrawal, the resumption of not going abroad looking for foreign monsters to slay, efforts to achieve independence from foreign trade, especially trade away from North America, and in short shifting position to be a local power practicing, as mentioned above, armed neutrality. I'm also not opposed to striking deals with the PRC to smooth that, which I gather you'd be quite against. From my perspective, though, they're going to collapse on their own soon enough anyway, and the USA needs to at the very least get its own house in order before trying to "help" with anyone else's.)

Preach.

As a military man I can assure you, China is getting very bold. Not looking good right now.

5538926 Of course I don't WANT the destruction of everything. I merely make it very unambiguously clear to the enemy that if they enrage me enough to move me to warfare... they're NOT going to live to regret such a foolish course of action.

In such a situation, anyone stupid enough to still engage rather deserves what they get!

As Nux Taku would put it, "I'm toxic to toxic people and wholesome to wholesome people." Or as Tolkien put it, "It's the difference between a cow grazing in the field and a bull charging, and the change can come swiftly."

Showing weakness to those who wish for domination is nothing less than begging to be put in fetters. And sometimes, when you get a group of fanatics who simply will not stop their madness out of some mix of narcissism, greed, ideological fanaticism, and insanity; you must utilize the strength you possess to battle them. In those instances, it serves all interests to end the conflict swiftly and decisively, so the next generation of madmen hesitate before risking the same annihilation.

5539135 America was never an empire. Had it been, we would be ruling Germany, Japan, the Philippines, Italy, and much of the Middle East. After WWII, the potential was there to simply divide up all the world among the winning powers. The only nation that demanded territory was the USSR. As usual, the communists were the ones behaving with pure imperialism.

In any case, we simply aim for a trade network with peaceful partners, as we are developing swiftly with India. The US trades with many nations who aren't trying to take over anything, and there are no problems there!

Right now, China is causing major problems globally, as they seek to become an Axis-like dictatorship. Their internal party politics, from the videos that slip out from the few brave souls in China who risk everything to warn us, show a mounting fanatical and xenophobic ideology that values NOTHING but the Party's continued existence.

Peace cannot be possible with such a degree of madness. The world must act, not simply one nation. And we were almost there. China was buckling under the combined pushback from the USA, Japan, India, Australia, Vietnam, and then Italy and France began to chime in.

But now, we have a rotten potato that is being mashed repeatedly by the bad actors in the world, humiliated repeatedly and incapable of even fielding simple questions from reporters. China sees this ridiculous weakness as their opportunity to strike. The global pushback was the only thing that kept them invading Taiwan this spring, but with the US capitulating and handwringing in self-flagellation and self-loathing (while ignoring China's staggeringly awful human rights records stretching back a thousand years, with 4 confirmed periods of war, purges, and famines resulting in at least 20 million deaths, with the last and worst under Mao possibly peaking at 100 million) China is now moving in position, knowing their agents in the USA are now in charge.

Lest we forget, Eric Swalwell (D) was having an affair with a Chinese spy. He was caught red-handed.... and is STILL on high-level intelligence committees. Chinese spies were exposed in multiple DNC officials' offices, and working in Congressional offices. They've been caught smuggling virus samples out of our universities, stealing military technical secrets directly from Lockheed (which now considers critical race theory far more critical than its own security, apparently). Their every action stinks of a buildup to a major conflict.

The rest of the world does appear to realize this, and many nations are starting to move and prepare, but they're far behind the 8-ball. There's not enough time. This is the result of too many nations simultaneously grumbling about the 'global police' of America, while doing nothing to prepare for their own protection since America was doing all the work for them. Meanwhile, China kept building war machines by the thousands. Even if (we hope) the extensive corruption in China results in many of these weapons malfunctioning, they still have more of them than anyone else, and a massive surplus population the CCP and PLA have no hesitation in throwing at us until we simply are overwhelmed.

As Mao once said, if 500 million must die to preserve the Party, it is an acceptable sacrifice. The Party officials ALL believe that. Xi's recent purges have left mostly hard-line Maoists in charge, who are ALSO corrupt and greedy at the same time! It's the worst of everything a government can become, combined into one monstrous red dragon.

5539185 I have never been asleep. My eyes were all over the globe at all times. I saw this coming 20 years ago. I warned against allowing China so much power and presence in global affairs while they still refused to grant their own people basic liberties.

My vindication is at hand as hundreds of millions around the world are opening their eyes and finally beholding the ravenous red dragon looming at their gates, but it may come too late to stop the flames from its mouth from consuming many who could have been spared had the warnings of myself and others (especially those who fled Mao and told us never to trust the CCP) been heeded.

But, the allure of easy money, and the deranged ideology of self-hating socialism that permeates the education system created a deformed cabal of self-contradictory collusion, empowering China while cutting itself over its own self-imposed failures.

5538939 I don't think North Korea wants to wage any kind of war at all. Kim is crazy, but not nearly as stupid as many of our politicians. Their nation is tiny, horrendously poor, and according to many reports... they would literally run out of ammunition in a week or less if they attempted any full-scale engagement.

They have so few arms most of their soldiers cannot train with real bullets. We also have a few closeup shots of many of their 'parade weapons' which proved at least half are mockups. Many of the others are antiquated equipment with a new paintjob.

Last year, Kim moved much of his ACTUAL military forces against the border with China. He knows China sees him as just a convenient morsel to be devoured when they no longer need him as a distraction. He's trapped, and is just as likely to launch every nuke he has at China as anywhere else. But even then, he has at most 10 low-yield bombs. China has many times more, and knows where all the missile launch sites in North Korea are. They could wipe North Korea off the face of the Earth with little difficulty.

No, China is the central threat to the peace of the entire world. It is their influence that keeps the dictatorships of Iran and Venezuela intact. Their fingers that drag African and Pacific nations into debt traps with the BRI schemes. It is they who fuel a massive portion of the black market and bootleg trades in all manner of illicit things, perhaps as high as 1/3 of the global total according to some international watchdogs.

If China were to suddenly suffer a mortal wound, its many henchmen around the world would practically freeze in place, unsure of what to do next, and allow the rest of the world a chance to take a deep breath and recover... before the NEXT evil empire began to take shape. Such is history, alas. The next generations always forget the lessons of the past, and as such are doomed to repeat them.

5539256
Exactly. Glad someone has their eyes open.

They could wipe North Korea off the face of the Earth with little difficulty.

Just about any halfway competent army could. The only reason it hasn't happened yet is indeed that China doesn't want it to, and I personally assume they'll just give the go-ahead to all the other countries that want North Korea gone in order to save their own resources for defeating those now-weakened countries. (I may be assuming more competence than they actually possess)

5539319 China is in the position where internally it's crumbling and deeply in debt, while at the same time it's also drastically overextending itself and souring relations with almost everyone. However, the massive globalist cabal likes China's complete control over its people (especially Big Tech, who salivate at the concept of being able to instantly erase anyone who speaks against them).

This is once more becoming a 3-way division where those who value liberty are facing a combined attack from the communists and TRUE fascists (the direct and explicit collusion of government, media, and giant corporations to attack ideological adversaries via a nationalized system of control of all industry and media, usually targeting a specific race which is demonized by the application of pseudoscientific concepts and relentless propaganda campaigns... i.e. CRT). We're seeing a new Axis forming, almost a carbon copy of the previous one, just with different names for itself. The few alive now who remember the Holocaust are BEGGING us to realize that this is exactly what it is, because they LIVED THROUGH THE FIRST ONE, and they KNOW the signs better than anyone. People who fled Mao and North Korea are bluntly declaring our universities MORE insane and MORE indoctrinating than openly communist countries.

If these eyewitnesses to atrocities declaring that WE'RE GOING THE ABSOLUTE WRONG WAY are not utterly damning condemnations of everything the radicals are up to, then how high a bar do people want? And how many of them WANT mass death to reach the insane goals of the Great Reset Cult?

5539252
We don't have a traditional empire, where we can point to a world map and talk about how much of it is [insert color here]. In the twentieth century we decided it was more cost-effective, and more palatable to the American people, to hide the empire and make it merely a military and economic structure among nominally independent countries. Of course, how different countries were handled varied; Britain had its Special Relationship, on more or less one end of things, while on the other, the term "Banana Republic" didn't come from nowhere.

As for the PRC, I have no illusions that the CCP is our friend, or that they aren't out primarily to hold and expand their power. Likewise, a significant part of the PRC's economic rise was fuelled by things lifted off the United States. But those trade deals weren't signed because PLA tanks were rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue; factories weren't closed down and offshored because Chinese soldiers went in and packed up the machinery. The PRC is not a military threat to the United States. Our empire, certainly, but not the United States itself. The USA is a large and well-armed country and one of the world's foremost nuclear powers; we are too costly to conquer by force, and the PRC has a wide selection of much more appealing targets. What we need to be concerned with is the rot at our own core, and while some of that is indeed likely spurred on by the PRC, I think we're quite good enough at generating it ourselves.

I am convinced that, at this point, the American Empire has reached its end, as all empires do. The PRC seems the likeliest to next rise, whether we like it or not; our choice is not whether to preserve our position and keep China down but how hard we want our fall to be. Pull it off right, as well as or better than Britain did, and I think the country can still be saved. Might or might not still be a great power, but it would be able to keep itself together and heal. Fight that current of history too hard for too long, though, and something's going to break instead; for this and a variety of other reasons related to the problems and predicaments of the day, I would not give the United States 100% odds of still existing as as single country ten years from now.

5540186 China will not be an empire as it wishes to be. It is already just as corrupt as we are, merely more brutal and crushing internal opposition. But this is causing its people to begin to refuse to do anything, indeed their newest movement is the 'Do Nothing' resistance.

China will burn itself out. The problem is, its flames will burn down an untold number of nations along with them.

Nukes aren't portable enought fro that to work, and we risk starting ww3 if we are every found out, which is likley.Look at all the dirt snowden got up, and their are plenty more like him still around.

5540386 Suitcase nukes exist. There are mininukes so small they can actually be fired from a bazooka-like device. They have very low yields, but they are indeed nuclear weapons.

The main hindrance is that it's OBVIOUS when a nuke is used, and that naturally yields to rapid escalation. If China was being totally paranoid, they'd just attack everyone around them EVEN IF it was one of their own somehow self-detonating.

Clandestine CIA crap is 90% of the reason the world is such a mess in the first place. These 'secret' missions have almost universally backfired horrendously. Nailing Bin Ladin was one of the only ones that went smoothly, and that was mostly armed forces-run and NOT the corrupt intelligence agencies.

So yeah, it's FEASIBLE to transport tiny nukes and sneak them into countries to blow up bits and pieces of them, but it's a TERRIBLE strategy to do that to a country that has full-scale nukes and is itching for an excuse to use them on its dozens of enemies.

5540293
Well, we'll see, I suppose.

5540500
And someone nuking the PRC would potentially be a great rallying-cry-slash-excuse for the CCP to gain more control over the country. Either that, or it'd be the straw that broke the camel's back and the thing would explode, but neither of those seems like it'd be particularly fun for the Chinese people or anyone who happened to be nearby (Where "nearby" potentially extends to "whatever the range of the PRC's ICBMs is". Or beyond, for economic disruptions and secondary conflicts.).

5541249 What we REALLY need is a BETTER bioweapon virus!

Fortunately... I have quite a selection to choose from. :pinkiecrazy:

5541856
Preeetty sure that'd be a bad idea. :D

5542619 I shall unleash the Otaku Virus, WHICH WILL TURN EVERYONE JAPANESE!!

Like that one song... from the 80's.

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto! :derpytongue2:

5542664
...Bioweapons are getting sophisticated these days, apparently. :)

5543874 They are indeed. I have found a way to genetically-engineer viruses to give everyone permanent Troll Face smiles! :pinkiecrazy:

Also, looks like Russia is about ready to invade somewhere. Putin just OUTRIGHT DECLARED the West can't win a war.

And the Taliban is swiftly taking back Afghanistan. The only bright side is that China's internal decay is accelerating rapidly and the brow-beaten Chinese who hate the regime are leaking more and more info; a sign that they're feeling bolder, while the regime tries to tighten its grip even more, which will have the effect of crushing the will of those who try to tow the party line.

This is what you get with a rotten old potato leading the 'free' world.

Putin is the single most powerful and capable leader in the world right now, simply because of sheer brute force and fearlessness.

5546124
"Also, looks like Russia is about ready to invade somewhere. Putin just OUTRIGHT DECLARED the West can't win a war."
Oh, he did? Well, it's not like that wasn't already widely known, though saying it publicly, hm, yes, could be a sign of something.

Sounds like Interesting Times in China, aye.

"This is what you get with a rotten old potato leading the 'free' world."
I think I feel vaguely insulted on behalf of the literal potatoes, there. :)
...But, yeah, much as I like potatoes and think they're quite a versatile vegetable, "President of the United States" is, admittedly, still not a role I think they're suited for.

"Putin is the single most powerful and capable leader in the world right now, simply because of sheer brute force and fearlessness."
Yeah, I definitely have some disagreements with him, but from what I can tell he does appear to be both highly competent and actually strongly interested in the survival and welfare of his state. I worry sometimes about what Russia will do when he finally succumbs to old age -- though I do doubt that he hasn't also thought of that (or the possibility of other and more sudden sources of exit) and made plans.

5546359 People forget, Putin was HIGH-LEVEL KGB. You didn't get as high up as he did without being both brilliant AND ruthless.

Underestimating him is suicidal. With Putin, you are in a room with a cobra... which is merely a distraction from the scorpion about to sting your heel from behind.

I am curious about the China in your mind.
Because I see you all the time on this website...

5554246 There is no China, only Zuul.

5554953 And I have only used 20% of my maximum power!
