Good afternoon, folks! Welcome to another Disney Friday review! This time, I will be talking about a Disney remake that just came out about a few weeks ago which is none other than Cruella. In my humble opinion, this film is the best Disney remake I have ever seen and the best solo villain origin movie so far. I kid you not; this movie exceeded my expectations, surprised me in so many ways, had intriguing and awesome characters, and a compelling story. Oh my gosh, I love this movie so much! However, just in case some of you guys have not seen this film yet, I am going to warn you right now that there will be a couple of spoilers in this review because I will be mentioning them. But if you want to read them anyway because you have no interest in watching the movie, then stick around; if you haven't seen it and you have to watch it first, stop scrolling through this blog, exit my page, and go see this movie. And here we... go!

This movie shows us the tragic story of Estella who always had some sort of bad side to her personality. She had a rough time growing up, was bullied, belittled, scorned, and even despised because she was different. Even worse for her, she suffered an immense tragedy which ultimately changed her whole life forever. Thus, it led her to a duo of friends who helped her, lived with her, and accompanied her in every step of the way as her new family. I gotta say, this version of Cruella is now my favorite incarnation of the character because of her backstory, her character development, the way she coped with her problems, and how she transformed from being a clumsy, soft-spoken, and reserved Estella to the wicked, unpredictable, charismatic, and sly Cruella. Emma Stone was a perfect choice for the character, and she seemed to be enjoying her role as Cruella. To be fair, I think this Cruella would be a perfect ally for The Joker. Imagine if they were a couple... ;)

The cinematography was excellent in this film, and the pacing and story were all amazing. Man, why do I feel as if this movie was a lot more fun than Joker, Venom, and even Maleficent all put together?

I actually love this film's versions of Jasper and Horace. They are among my most favorite characters in this movie alongside Cruella. Jasper is portrayed as an insightful, helpful, protective, and cautious gentleman who always behaves as a voice of reason. Speaking of Jasper, I have a confession to make: I was never really a shipper of characters in my life as I have stated a few times in my MLP reviews. However, after watching the chemistry displayed between him and Cruella throughout the whole movie, I could not help but ship those two. This is the first time I have actually shipped characters. I'm dead serious. I mean, those two look so cute together and have a lot of connections with each other. Even Emma Stone herself ships them!

As for Horace, he was actually really funny as his lines of dialogue and humor made me chuckle a lot. Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser did a great job playing those characters respectively.

As for the antagonist, by the Allspark, the Baroness made me hate her so much. She is a sadistic, narcissistic, overbearing, and selfish psychopath. What was even more shocking to me was this appalling plot twist in regards to her and Cruella: SPOILER WARNING!The Baroness was actually Cruella's real mother who was responsible for the death of her foster mother. Which would explain Estella's cruel personality side, being obsessed with fashion designing, and being basically what she is. That would also explain why her foster mom kept scolding and discouraging Estella to not be a Cruella because she did not want her to be like her biological mother. To me, it really blew my mind!

I was so happy the Baroness got what was coming for her at the end. Emma Thompson did an amazing job portraying that type of villain that would make the audience hate her character a lot... in a good way. Huh, Emma Stone and Emma Thompson both have the same first name. Considering the characters they played, I wonder if that was intentional...

At the end, this movie is the best remake (if you can call it that since there's already a remake of 101 Dalmatians) I have ever watched and one of the best films of 2021 so far. I will definitely give this a 10/10! For those of you who have watched it, I really hope you enjoyed this as well!

Oh, and the post credit scene was a splendid callback to the original 101 Dalmatians movie from 1961. That was just pure fan-service right there.

Peace!

You think playing her song from 101 Dalmatians would be appropriate?

Well sometimes songs for certain characters aren't used in the premise. They could've done the movie without using it.

It's fan-service. To me, I actually liked it.

I’m going to see it today, so... yeah.

For once just seeing the final score and leaving a comment is useful.

Even though I don’t care much about the movie and I’m just tagging along with the family.

Let me know what you think afterwards... darling. :raritywink:

I thought it was an okay film. Not a 10/10 for me but my parents liked it better than I did.

"Why You Horrid Man...You....You...Alright, Keep The Little Beasts For All I Care! Do What You Like With Them! Drown Them!"

Considering what Cruella ultimately planned to do with the puppies, the above quote was a major red flag. Roger did good, standing up to her and declaring she'd never get any one of the puppies. Cruella, however, clearly isn't used to not getting what she wants. Her reaction to not getting what she wanted was quite dark and disturbing in itself.

"Any Way You Like! Poison Them. Drown Them. Bash Them In The Head. You Got Any Chloroform?"

Cruella hired Horace and Jasper to do the dirty work, leaving them to do the dognapping as well as the killing, but she clearly has no remorse or second thoughts about any of it. She is the mastermind, and she doesn't care what happens to the innocent puppies, as long as she gets what she wants. Cruella was awful through and through, and quotes like this highlight just how little conscience she has. She didn't even hesitate when listing ideas as to how Horace and Jasper could get "the job" done. She's too casual about murder, and it's quite troubling.

"I Don't Care How You Kill The Little Beasts, But Do It, And Do It Now!"

Cruella doesn't care about a lot of things, including dognapping and killing puppies. Though, she does obviously care about the police, as she urges Jasper and Horace to kill the puppies ahead of schedule. She yells at and slaps her hired help, leaving with a threat that she'll call the police if they don't do what she asks by the time she returns. She doesn't have much regard for other lives, whether they're dogs or humans. Cruella runs the show, and she makes sure that everyone knows it.

Considering those lines, I don't think you can make Cruella De Vil a sympathetic villain whatever her real name is, Heck her name literally means Cruel Devil. She isnt a sympathetic villain no matter what they do with her or no matter how tragic her past is or who died in her life because everyone knows that she would and still plan to kill and skin those innocent puppies because we've watched the other movie. I couldn't care less for this protagonist and I wish the worst for her which thankfully yes happened in that animated movie. This is like making a movie of Hitler's Tragic Past where his mother died and his father beat up him as a child then getting flunked of art school before rising to be a dictator torturing and gassing jews in his death camps. I could not be sympathetic and root for that character no matter how sad and teary eyed his sob story is going to be if that's what he's going to do. I don't care for this woman if she gets abused and experimented on in that mental asylum that she's going to end up in. Captured Nazis and other War Criminals were literally tried and hanged after World War 2. What makes her different as an animal killer and abuser? I give this movie a 0 OUT OF 10 and I haven't even watched it. If I decided to watched it and judged the movie based on the visuals then I'm going to start giving this movie Negatives starting with -12. This is the worst movie ever based on the summary of the plot that I've read on your review but I'll still watch it sooner or later to see if it would at least grant me a bit humor or a chuckle.

I enjoyed it. Considering I never saw 101 Dalmatians but heard of things, I wasn’t sure if I understood more or less when I left.

I’m very happy you enjoyed it! :pinkiehappy:

Got bored a bit, but I still liked it. That's what anticipation does, I guess.
