    Personal life disruption

Hey, everyone. I felt I owed you all an explanation for why it's now two weeks past the last scheduled update for Primrose War.

So, I've had a bit of a personal upheaval. I'm moving forward with building a house, not immediately, but there's been a lot of talking with friends and family about what it'll mean going forward. So that's one thing.

    Unexpected Hiatus

Hello everyone. I wanted to apologize for the lengthy, unexpected hiatus of The Primrose War. It was definitely unplanned, and this time I haven't been writing. Work, leading up to the holidays, has been more stressful than usual with the rush to get things done before I take my two week end-of-year vacation.

    Next chapter delayed

Hello everyone! I apologize, but the next chapter of Primrose War will be delayed by a bit. Between work and a few novel releases that I've been looking forward to, I haven't made as much progress as I wanted to on the next chapter. I do have a solid outline, though, for the rest of the book as well as part of the next, so I haven't been idle.

One Year Anniversary of The Primrose War · 5:32pm Jun 10th, 2021

Four days late, I know, but I've managed an entire year of posting weekly without slipping up and missing a week. The day of posting has changed a little over time, but good grief.

Seventy-four chapters. Almost two books now, in a year. I feel very good about those numbers and that accomplishment. This is, by far, the longest story I've ever written, and it's spawned quite a few side-projects and what-ifs. But I'm just going to sit here and feel the accomplishment of publishing more than 450,000 words in one story, and over 500,000 by the time this book is done.

Alright. Glow over. So. Side-projects, some abandoned, some with potential future plans. Sound-off.

  • The Primrose Promise

    • What started this whole thing in the first place. A story set in modern Equestria, with all our favorite characters, but changed. This follows on a lot of the ideological changes that went into this story. The nobility has a larger role in society, and Twilight Sparkle is nobility, albeit minor nobility. Primrose Promise, fifth of her name, is the main character of the piece, and isn't doing well. She's after ponies that kidnapped her, mind-raped her, and tried to get her to turn against her family. She rescued herself with words from her distant ancestor, whom many say she is the spitting image of: Rosewater Rosethorn, and whom she shares a talent with.
  • The Primrose Intrigues

    • An AU where Roseline lived longer, and lived to see her granddaughter become friends with Collar, then lovers, but died before they could be married. Carnation is still exiled for the same reason in this story, and Rosewater and Collar marry soon after. The story takes place five years after that, and they are busy raising their currently only son, Promise Primrose, and trying to keep him safe from bandits that would see the emerging regime of Merriedamme fall apart before it even has a chance to come to pass.
  • Exploring Love

    • A human AU, with magitech, magic, and the three tribes still in evidence with the Treekin (earth ponies), Aetherkin (unicorns), and Featherkin (pegasi) all living together in a Merriedamme united almost four centuries ago by a stronger and more forceful Frosty Rosewing. The city is now a modern metropolis, but both sides of the river still retain their own cultures. Merrie's side has a culture raised around freedom of love and a cultural distaste for clothes (except when necessary) and have developed social and sanitary rules for acceptable public nudity. Damme tolerates her sister city's culture, and views the rest of the world as rather prudish when it comes to clothing, but tends towards clothed anyway, and has a cultural tendency for the old families to retain their stance against polyamory.
  • The Promised Life

    • Imagined as an immediate sequel to the Primrose War trilogy, I haven't actually written or planned anything out yet, but it would be a slow-paced, relatively plot-free (aside from arcs) story following the lives of the ponies of the Primrose War following the conclusion of the final book in the series. I'm not sure I'd do this one, because I'm not sure I'd be able to keep it up, and I have so many other projects (both pony and non-pony) that I want to try to explore.

During this past year, I've also completed the first draft of what I hope will be my first published novel. It's four chapters into a second draft right now, and I've had to pause and put it down as I ran out of buffer for The Primrose War. I want to maintain that streak of once-a-week postings without pause until the end of the entire story. That's my goal, and I am trying my best to stick to it.

Thank you to all of my readers past, present, and future, and I look forward to many more chapters yet to come.

Anyway... one year anniversary! Yay!

It has been and continues to be a fun ride.

Congrats and Happy 1 Year Anniversary!

This story has been a ride and I'm so happy to have something like this to look forward to reading every week. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Keep up the good work, on this AND your first non-pony novel!

I'm always excited to see your comments, Hyper. They make my day. And yes, I'm super excited to finish Primrose, or (more realistically) build up enough buffer that I can get back to editing it for a bit before it goes dry in my mind and I have to start over. With the editing, not with the entire thing, just to keep the story "until now" fresh in my head.
