Tumbleweed vs. The Magic of Cybertron #2 · 12:11am May 28th, 2021
Oh, hello.
Technically, this issue came out yesterday, but I wasn't able to pick it up 'til today.
I remain BEST AT PONIES, and PRETTY GOOD AT ROBOTS.
In any case, Magic of Cybertron #2 is ... honestly more of the same? The issue is split up into two different stories, in each of which, a pony teams up with a robot. In this issue, Rainbow Dash and the Wonderbolts hang out with Starscream and the Seekers, while Applejack has a run-in with Wildwheel. That later bit is fairly notable, given that Wildwheel comes from the more recent Cyberverse continuity, instead of the 'standardized' G1 stuff.
But ... that's about it? I mean, this comic is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. Which is perfectly fine, but the stories are so straightforward that there's really not much to dig into, nerdwise. Huh. It also doesn't help that I've been reading TMNT: The Last Ronin, which is really good. But I'm kind of a sucker for Days of the Future Past style dark futures. At least, I am when they're done well.
Like, if I got really ambitious I'd write a story along those lines myself ... except 'durr durr the shiny cartoon is GRIM AND DARK' is cheap and kind of dumb, and I am above that as a pretentious-ass writer. That, and I haven't written much in the way of pony story since December. Ehem.
Since you bring up Friendship In Disguise, how's the next part of that coming along?

Ooof, that's definitely one of those stories I SHOULD finish, but I've got a bunch of stuff on my plate that's keeping me from finising it. That, and the story is definitely from my 'write some adventure stories that don't quite go anywhere' period, and ... yeah.
Though if IDW disappoints me enough with their current crossover, then I may just have to finish that story out of spite, just to show that I can write pony/robot crossover better than they can.
It also doesn't help that IDW is gonna do a 'King Grimlock' miniseries soon that's pretty much exactly my go-to pitch of Grimlock as Space-Robot-Dinosaur-Conan. Like, on the one hand, I'm happy to read it, but on the other, I wish I was the one writing it. Ehem.
I wouldn't sass Rainbow if I were you, Starscream. I'm fairly confident she's faster than you.
