The Princess's Captain and the Student Six · 7:27pm May 24th, 2021
In the last blog, I talked about how seasons 8 and 9 would be represented vis-a-vis canonicity to my story that doesn't even include all of season 7 in its canon.
Today, I wanted to talk about six very specific characters from those seasons because, spoilers, one of them has already made an appearance! Hit below the break.
So yeah, Ocellus shows up in The Captain's Question because when I came up with the idea, I needed a changeling OC. And I was like, "But I don't wanna make a changeling OC." And then I was all, "Oh wait, the show already made one for me!" :) Plus, Ocellus is cute as fuck and I don't mind including her in stories whatsoever.
Where the others stand isn't quite so cut-and-dried, however.
Gallus for instance could have made an appearance in A Princess's Trials, during the Griffonstone chapters. In fact, I think I had gone back and forth on whether to cameo him so much that I actually couldn't remember if I had or not and had to go reread the chapters in question to be sure. c.c I have no plans for him, but rest assured if I ever do include him, his life will be miserable because he sucks. :V No getting adopted by Gilda or whatever.
Sandbar. Does anyone care about Sandbar? Will anyone really give a shit if he never makes an appearance in this story? Because seriously, it will be a cold, dark day on Fimfiction dot net when I run out of ideas for actual interesting background and OC ponies to use before him.
The one that causes me actual grief is Smolder. I've already done the big Dragon Lands scene, and that might have been at least plotted if not written prior to Sweet and Smoky? So like, Garble's already in this story (and will be seen again!), and giving him a sister isn't really going to improve anything about his character. Like, he might mention her, but that's probably all you'll ever see of her in TPC. Which is a shame, since she's easily the best character of the bunch.
Speaking of superlatives, let's move on to the worst character: Yona. I hate yaks, so I've got no plans for her. I suppose there could be a cameo in a later chapter that will have yaks? But I hate yaks and so will be spending as little time in Yakyakistan as possible. And most of that is going to be focused on the Prince. Some random klutzy kid isn't going to be getting an audience with Princess Twilight Sparkle, yadig?
And then there's the one that might actually upset people, which is Silverstream. I'm sorry to her fans, but she will be Miss Not-Appearing-in-This-Story. Where the others most assuredly exist in their home countries, Silverstream was created as an expy for Princess Skystar, and I'm already using Skystar. I don't need a second one. Silverstream does not exist in this continuity.
(That said, Terramar exists, as I believe I eluded to in the aforementioned canonicity blog. I don't know if that's a good tradeoff, I'm not really a fan of Silverstream.)

Got to make some adjustments when canon marches on. These are entirely reasonable ways to adjust matters.

Replacing Silverstream with Skystar is very much a bueno... Never understood why they didn't use her in the first place, its like a no brainer!
Yona is the only Yak with a personality... And that's sad.

You could always have Skystar look in the Mirror Portal and see Silverstream looking back. At which point she calmly nopes out of there, and the story never mentions the incident again.
