Had a film degree for six years, never bought a camera · 1:29pm May 10th, 2021
Finally managed to buy an old Nikon D3400 second hand from a pawn shop. I might have gone a little overboard in the last 48 hours with it. Pictures after the break.
Considering selling prints or something but I've never done it before, and tips or pointers would be appreciated.
Make an Instagram my dude.
and then follow my roommate’s fantastic cat at @thelegendofkafei !

Instagram scares and confuses my old bones
Very pretty photos.
Couldn't give any advice on how to sell prints I'm afraid.
Ooh, very nice shots! Im partial to the flowers, and the one with all the movie posters
Verry good, thanks for sharing!
I'm jealous, I've always wanted a nice camera. I should try second hand like you.

There's a bunch of this exact model of camera for sale on ebay and the like for around $300, and I obviously recommend it, but I would also say that purchasing the "For Dummies" book on this model of camera is worth every cent. Even if you understand the basics of photography, the user interface is extremely non-intuitive - which is why this specific camera is very cheap for the specifications.

It's a pretty bad platform in general, so don't sweat it.
Also you should post your amazi-terrible "painting" (or a shot like it) while we're on the subject. :V

Ugh, and here I am majorly tapped out from moving.

God, as much as I truly love that one, best not out my roommate like that.
Ooh. Pretty.

I don't like the framing of the ant pic, though. The ant is so tiny it's almost an afterthought to the flower—you can miss it easily while browsing and it doesn't add a lot to the composition once you finally see it, and it doesn't have the feeling of insignificance you might want to convey when you put something tiny and alive on something big (especially not with that aspect ratio). I think it would be better either as a closeup of the ant in microsurface (like 1:1 aspect ratio) or semi-close-up in macro (very wide aspect ratio), or else without the ant at all.
Very nice work! You certainly have an eye for pleasing compositions.

As requested. I only noticed the ant while developing the picture, and reframed it to highlight it a bit more. Here's the original.
"You can miss it easily while browsing-" no kidding, I missed it while holding the camera!
FWIW coming from me, I like your photos and composition style.
I spent some time researching photography as a business when I was out of work for a while, but decided that I was not passionate enough to really dive deep enough to make that work, so I don't really have any worthwhile advice.
You might check out Thomas Heaton, though. He's an excellent pro photographer who successfully made the switch. He posts video logs on YouTube, including some that cover his commitment and transition to pro photography. He's interesting and insightful, and worth a look in any case.

Oh, nice.
Yes, nature is complicated and uncooperative. It's amazing she's so photogenic, considering.

Seriously appreciate it
