What were your first impressions of me? (Genuine question for fun, as I need a funny distraction right now) · 5:44am May 6th, 2021
I find this debate highly laughable because of the painfully common misconception, but the first time you ever saw my name and HAVEN'T heard my voice yet, and judging from my female OC, did you think I was a guy or a girl?
A couple of my friends have been mistaken as females due to their female OCs, and I'm genuinely curious to see whether or not the same mistake was made on my part by somebody who hasn't heard my voice yet nor discovered me revealing my true gender.
So, go on, tell me what your first impressions of me were!
I first read a story of yours when you had a gender neutral avatar, and as such made no assumptions. I'd already made the error of assuming somebody's gender when I accidentally called a female user 'dude'. That was awkward.
The story was 'A Girl and her Alligator' if you're wondering.
I had a similar experience, except over nationality. Do to some of my writing, ahem, quirks, a lot of people think I'm either American or a non-native English speaker.
I think I’ve pretty much always assumed you were male. I have, however, had some trouble with other guys with female OCs, such as Tridashie, GLAZE, and AuroraDawn (who has a female avatar, and I’m not entirely sure if Aurora is either male or female).
However, before I was formally using she/her, a few people mistook me for female because I basically acted like a cartoon horse girl. The fact there was some overlap between using he/him and using the name ‘Dashie’ probably didn’t make it easier.

AuroraDawn is a guy. We've spoken a bit on a Discord server, he's pretty cool. Glaze is a guy, his OC is named Wooden Toaster. I think he might have admitted that someplace, or it was just obvious to some people through his voice. It's not too hard to detect through the vocal manipulation he uses from the programme he uses.
Hey, that's fairly common. A lot of users on every platform give off that misconception because some of them might immerse themselves into the role of the gender that their OC is for roleplay purposes. I have done it myself a few times, mostly for fun and other times because I did actually play dnd at one point where my character was female. It can get confusing at times, but I think it's funny.

Gender-neutral avatar? Not sure which one I had when I wrote that, but was it by chance my OC phoenix logo? I've had enough to forget easily which ones I had at a specific time.
Not going to lie, I assumed you were American given that's what the majority of users are on this site and on the internet. English users here don't seem as frequent, in my experience. It's like we're an extinct species. I think I only knew you were also a Brit in your response to my blog post called Calling All British Bronies: Where My Brits At?! or something along those lines.
Btw, you're not alone on that part. I wouldn't say it's a mistake, maybe that's how some people talk? Some of my female friends call each other that, even though the correct term is actually 'dudette' for slang. Although, that sounds like you'd only say it if you were a surfer boy like Woody from the Popeye the Sailor and Son cartoon.

I knew GLAZE was a guy. I do feel awkward misgendering AuroraDawn for literal years though.

Indeed. My friend Misty Rose had the reverse problems; a lot of people assumed she was a guy (because she was on Fimfiction) and a lot older than she actually was (I won't disclose her actual age, but safe to say she wasn't in her twenties like a lot of people assumed from the standard of her writing and grammar).

Well, what do ya know! That same thing happened to me a while back when I made that blog to see how old people actually thought I am. I got one the first time I tried it and was told that I was likely in my 30's simply because my writing was apparently well above average. I hate sounding like I'm bragging, as it is not my intent ever, but I have been told I'm great at writing enough so that I get comments about it...but have to be honest, the idea that I was thought to be in my thirties or older made me severely depressed for a while. Nice compliment on the writing, but...ouch.
Anyway, it is very easily to assume literally anything about anybody through an online agenda or alias. Anybody could be anybody and it's never clear who they really are. You know, unless they're a daily vlogger or something along those lines where you clearly see their face and become a part of their lives, etc.

Indeed.
