    *eye roll*

me checking the dislike ratio on my new story

Glad to know bigotry is still alive and well in this fandom.

It's glad to see some of us didn't watch the same series as I did.

    So where I've been

Okay, uh... how do I begin this? Well, I suppose I should start with the obvious. Yes, I've been distracted. If you follow me on Archive that should be obvious. And if you don't, you totally should btw. Yes, I'm shameless.

Quick thoughts on Yasuke · 10:39pm Apr 30th, 2021

So... Yasuke. I can only give it a resounding 'meh'.

Like it had potential, but honestly, I think they should have stretched it out over 13 episodes given the worldbuilding they seemed to want to do.

Like if they had more than six episodes they could explain the AIs, balance the historical fiction with Jojo-style insanity and even give the main villain a... uh, motivation really. Like the Daimyo is generic doomsday evil witch #454.

That's the issue, it can't decide if it wants to be samurai history or something truly insane. It's got mecha, a Russian werebear, and in between a demonic ancient entity presiding over everything yet we never learn why this is.

More to the point, Yasuke was a real man so why not just focus on his tenure under Nobunaga? If this was a story on Musashi they could go nuts as everyone knew him but a lesser-known samurai like Yasuke? No.

It's good if you have two hours to kill but not much else.
Yeah, fun note, Chadwick had been in talks to do a Yasuke movie before he passed. Damn, we were robbed! Like I would have paid good money to have seen that.

When you say Chadwick was looking at the movie, do you mean an actual serious historical drama? Or do you mean they were planning an adaption of this animated series that far in advance. With how fast studios are ready to get ball rolling on franchises and universes, I could believe the latter.

Yeah, they were originally planning an serious historical drama with him in mind until, obviously and tragically that fell through. I guess he was the *only* choice for the role, though I would beg to dif as Idris Elba is a thing.
