shhhhhhhhhhhh just breaking the site again don't mind me

very, very, very experimental fic continues its slow progress as the deadline for bicyclette's sci-fi contest draws near. these chapters are about on-par with what if in terms of length, but oh boy have they been an interesting experience to write.

hey hey btw i've got a (couple of) public minecraft server(s)!

yeah so anyway here is my webbed site lol. there's an MC Classic server for building whatever, and an MC Beta 1.7.3 server for playing survival. I might eventually also put up a modern vanilla server as well, though given how I'm hosting a bunch of servers already for friends and a couple of discord servers, idk if the little slab of a PC I'm using to host 'em all would be able to manage lol.

summer break is almost here :V

basically got one week left lol. got an experimental fic in the works that's a sort-of direct sequel picking off right where Splintershard ended. no prior reading is necessary.

MAN it's been a while since I've toyed with writing styles.

Well tonight was a bit weird. · 8:51am Apr 17th, 2021

Got an email in my spam folder saying that one of my old passwords was harvested from an "adult videos" website, along with supposed webcam footage of me watching said adult videos.

Well, mister "Pay me $1000 in bitcoin", I know exactly what's going on.

  1. That password was part of the 2019 GameSalad database breach, which leaked the emails and passwords of basically everyone who used the site.
  2. I stopped using that password ages ago.
  3. Do you really think this sleep-deprived college boio has time for adult videos when he's almost always swamped in midterms and mentally panicking?

Anyhow, I sent a complaint email to the (seemingly legit) company that owns the website that the email supposedly was sent from. If it's one of their employees, then hoo boy, somebody's about to get a whuppin' from their boss. If not, then I've just alerted them to a potential network breach. :V

Anyway, time to pass out now. I shuffled some of my passwords just in case after that scare.

Hey, I got an email just like that a couple days ago. Sadly I think it's just a bot run by scammers. Would be nice to get a little revenge for the scam attempt.

That happened to me once for a website I used to be a member of that I forgot the password to, except they were demanding I send them money from a ban account I didn't have.

In Bitcoin lol :rainbowlaugh: .

Sorry to hear that I was hacked once so i get it

IT'S A SCAM! :pinkiegasp::rainbowlaugh:

At least you didn't fall for it. If these people took 5p from every bank account that they'd been given details for they'd earn millions still. :facehoof:

Y'all want to know the terrifying thing about these sorts of scams? People wouldn't keep doing them if they didn't work, and the people they work on have votes that count the same as yours as far as democracy is concerned.

That's less terrifying than utterly stupid. :facehoof: But it does show that a lot of ponies will believe anything they are told and how easily *pinches nose in effort to pull off Donald Trump accent* fake news is spread around.

5499614
You mean you aren't terrified by the fact that that utter stupidity decides the leader of your country?

5499633
Not really. I do have my political opinions, but at the end of the day, all the politicians are as bad as each other if you think about it. Probably not a very popular opinion, but I've yet to see a perfect system.

Yeah I got an email like that around September of last year

I'm not surprised that it works on some people, they demonstrate "knowledge" of you (at least a bit) by showing you your password and thee's a general understanding that most people just use the same password for all of their accounts. I can see how someone would be scared enough to pay the "ransom." People don't think as much when their worried and the threat included with the email could really scare someone who believes they have something to hide. Changing passwords is one thing, but the threat of exposing some dark secret is another.
There's always going to be people fooled by some obvious scam somewhere, I don't think less of them in general for it. (Personally is another matter all together.)
I just like laughing at scam attempts. I think my response to the email went something along the lines of:
Do you really think they don't already know?
Please, I've got nothing to hide. Last scammer took one look at my bank account and actually asked if I needed any help. (This line was part of my response, just making a joke.) Since you're trolling these sites anyway, would you like some recommendations? I don't know about marks, but as you've mentioned I know where the quality "adult content" is.
I also got the stereotypical "Nigerian Prince" email. that one was fun. And the "Secret internet Admirer" scam.
I used to troll scammers to entertain myself. I kinda miss it sometimes. I stopped because of just how many are bots. You can get some comedy from it, but it's nothing like messing with a real person.

A lot of the scams we get in the U.S. isn't even from within the country, they come from eastern Europe, the Middle East and countries that end in -istan. In a lot of cases they're ran by international criminal organizations or terror cells.

But the people who fall for them are in the US. And their vote counts just as much as yours.
