Having read some of the comments I have say that I was surprised by some of the reactions. I honestly thought the ending was good, but then I get one comparing it to the ending of Game of Thrones? God almighty, I didn't think anything I've ever written was that bad! I certainly didn't intend to upset people, but I expect we all take different things away from a read.
I don't know, maybe I dropped the ball on this one.
I think I'll be taking some time out after this for some deep, philosophical, and no doubt introspective, sulking.
Bugger me, all I need now is Paul Asuran coming along to tell me how shit my story writing is. AGAIN!!!
well just learn from it, make the next story better, that how you improve
comparing the ending to game of thrones is wildly overdramatic and kinda unfair, in my opinion, and i don't think you should beat yourself up over it. there's certainly criticism that can be made- it feels a little weird to have this huge dramatic battle over the portal going on and then have the main characters go leave in an airplane instead and lyra gets separated and rescued and the secret agents are there and everyone else just disappears off into the horizon, and the memory wipe is one hell of a gut punch- but my understanding was that there was more to the story and that obviously the entire 160,000 odd words of lyra on the island aren't just going to be swept out her mind forever.
if you do just leave the story here i'll probably be ;/ but assuming it leads into more its not even close to game of thrones bad. that was bad because it was The End and it was bad. the epilogue here just really begs not to be The End because otherwise it is super depressing and makes lyra's story feel pointless. (even if it was The End, its still not game of thrones bad)
but these are just words from my head and i'm just a stranger on the internet, so take from it what you will. even though i had some criticisms i really did enjoy the story
