    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Midnight Rising chapter 10 is... rising · 2:56pm Apr 5th, 2021

With my second new Feathered Hearts chapter in the books—thanks to everyone who liked and commented!—I'm shifting back to Midnight Rising. The next chapter, which involves our favorite party animal showing a bevy of female dragons how to have fun, is already 4200 words long and growing quickly. Oddly, I'm finding myself making a lot of lore for the dragons in the process of writing this, and maybe even eventually fixing some things I didn't like about their depiction from the show.

But you'll see. To no surprise, Pinkie's approach to winning over the dragons is much different than Rarity's, especially in dealing with Ember. But as there are six dragon females present, the question becomes, how does she show them all a good time? Or more to the point, teach them how to have a good time, and do so at least halfway within the rules of dragon society?

Well, let's just say the dragon ladies and Pinkie have certain surprising interests in common, which she can then use to increase her appeal to them. Ember will be a tougher nut to crack, but never underestimate Pinkie's ability to draw someone out and better yet, appeal to them on their own terms.

I've come up with suitably draconic and evocative tough-girl names for all five other (non-Ember) dragon females; names that match their respective hues so I don't have to keep describing them by color. It's getting interesting trying to avoid saying Ember's name, as I want it to remain unheard until Sunset finally remembers it. That way, I can have a very interesting and slightly surreal conversation between them later, as they were introduced to each other once before when Sunset was still Celly's student.

I fully expect I'll have a chapter draft ready by midweek or so, and the chapter ready to launch by this weekend. Probably no teaser again as the chapter doesn't seem to lend itself to one thus far. So get hyped once again, even if this time it's not for Fortrakt popping a massive and uncontrollable boner over Tara in Feathered Hearts!

As always, it comes with the clopfic. Never change Firesight :scootangel:

The Dragons need the help, trust me. I mean, of all the fantasy races to not be able to create a competent story for, MLP fails to deliver a good dragon? It takes real effort to mess that up.

Congrats on 420 blogs. Blaze it!

Now that you mention it yeah, Dragons kind of lacked in females. Besides Smolder and Ember there were Ballista and Prominence not much I can think of. There's also Mina from the Comic and maybe Flare from the Campfire Tales episode.

Anyway, can't wait:twilightsmile:

Getting to these a little late, but late than never, right?

Unfortunately, the late season writers were more than up to the task. :facehoof: Hell, even my clopfic version of the dragons is better thought out and makes the dragons bigger badasses with a much stronger society than the show did.

Groovy, dude! :rainbowlaugh:

I'm having it here so there's still something of a skewed gender ratio with dragons with more males than females, but nowhere near as bad as ponies.

Anyway, can't wait:twilightsmile:

Well, you've seen it now! I was very happy to see you enjoyed it. And by your request, I will try to add in some additional description for our lovely ladies later. :coolphoto:
