Does he really want to try something new?

He could go to Raising Canes. He loves Canes.

But he goes there every other week. Shouldn’t he do something new?

New means change. Change is…

He should get out of his comfort zone.

He doesn’t know the menu. What if he has trouble deciding?

What if he stops at the drive-thru menu and just sits there?

What if someone drives up behind him?

What about Whataburger? He’s been there a few times.

Still don’t know the menu. Same problem.

But… But something different!

He can see himself sitting in front of the drive-thru menu, not sure what to pick.

What if he picks something he doesn’t like?

A car pulls up behind him.

It waits.

He’s still thinking.

People are waiting and the meal might not be good.

Here comes James Coney Island.

There goes James Coney Island.

Canes. Canes is good.

Change is overrated, right?

Takes longer than usual to get there.

Canes is closed. Power outage.

...there’s always Popeyes. Haven’t had one of their chicken sandwiches in a while.

He’s not sure he’s up for that.

He’s had it before.

He could get a different side?

Weak.

Maybe Whataburger.

Or Burger King. Hasn’t been to a BK in over a decade.

Or a McDonalds.

McDonalds has a place inside the Wal-Mart. It's practically next door.

Drive all the way out here for McDonalds.

Stupid.

Popeyes is coming up. That sandwich is good.

Does he really want that sandwich?

Whataburger?

Menu.

Drive-thru.

Lunch rush.

People waiting.

Decide. Decide. Decide!

Damn it, he’s supposed to be doing something different!

He can… He can...

Light’s red.

He can…

Light’s green.

Sonic. Familiar, recognizable, enjoyable.

He orders the foot-long Coney. He never orders that.

He’ll take a win where he can get it.

There’s always next week.

This is, generally speaking, what went through my head yesterday after I went grocery shopping. It struck me shortly afterwards that I get anxious over strange things. Even as the anxiety was driving my every thought at the time, I knew it was a pointless anxiety. And yet it still defeated me.

Don't know why I wanted to share this. Call this an impulse blog.

...on the positive side, that hot dog was pretty good.

Like you said, gotta take the wins where you can.

Just don't let yourself be tempted to paint green stripes on your boots. That never ends well.

Had a similar incident on Tuesday... though that was Taco Bell, so it was more an exercise in topology than anything else.

I was reading that with the same gravitas as the Minecraft credits conversation.

Huh. I thought I was reading some kind of new-age postmodern poetry.

I get the same way sometimes. Get into a rhythm, or a rut depending on who you talk to, decide to try something new but realize that I need to research what I want first before I go anywhere. Kind of kills the spontaneity of things, but that's just me.

Kind of reminds me of a passage I read just yesterday from A Witch in Broad Daylight

Even if there was a 99% chance of me liking whatever I tried, that’s still lower than the 100% chance of me enjoying studying magic. So it’s only logical for me to only study magic.

Definitely not a healthy way to live, but :yay: if I don't understand where Twilight was coming from here. :twilightoops:

It was pretty hard to go to Raisin Canes when their power was out and they couldn't serve me anything, anyway.

On to your point, I think it's good to try some variety at some point, even if only for the chance to add something new to your routine every once in a while.
