Correcting the Critics #2: "Save MLP"

It's been a while since I did my last part in the series. But recently, I saw something that encouraged this installment. A tweet pointing out what someone said 10 months prior. On November 25th 2022, Fluttercheer made a blog post on this site about Save MLP and sent a message about how supporters of that

ChatGPT came up with AU fanfic ideas

I'd say that the title of this blog post says it all, but I'd be lying. I'm not the type who would rely on ChatGPT. But I would certainly consider it once in a while and would most definitely recommend it, especially if you have writer's block.

Some of these ideas I may use sometime. Or anyone reading this blog can use them for their own inspiration.

Correcting the Critics #1: "Why Couldn't MLP been more epic?"

I've chosen to begin a new blog series where I look at the claims of trolls, haters, and ignorant people and pick apart their claims. I can't promise how regular or frequent this series will be. But I wanted to make a proper series with a straight-to-the-point name. In this series, I will also avoid actually posting any links or saying names. I don't want to give the people or groups any

Debunking "Debunking (Twilight's SUPPOSED Job to help people)" · 7:17am Mar 27th, 2021

Did you know Mykan has a vendetta against Twilight Sparkle? Well surprisingly, this blog post isn't about a vendetta against her. I mean, he still has that vendetta. This just isn't it. He only addresses this because of his personal bias against her. It may not be a vendetta, but it is propaganda. And I may have broken a record for the most times the word vendetta in the shortest amount of time. But I could be wrong. As I rip off Rationality Rules' intro, this is Debunking "Debunking (Twilight's SUPPOSED Job to help people)".

What is it people and TV-Tropes keeps saying...?

"It's kinda her job!"

I wasn't able to find this quote. And despite that, saying something like kinda her job doesn't mean it is her job.

So before Twilight became ruler of Equestria (Ugh) Her job as Princess of Friendship (Also Ugh) was to sort out and solve friendship problems-- seek out other ponies and creatures having difficulties, and wanting them to get along and keep the peace and order in Equestria.

That is understandable, and quite fine... it's like being a psychologist...

The difference however is that being royalty isn't a job. Twilight doesn't get paid to be a princess. She can't be fired from the position. She can't quit the position. A psychologist is a chosen profession. A princess is just who someone is.

You have to WANT the help! You have to WANT to be cured, and if it doesn't work out... well, the psychologist simply cannot help you, and is free to give up. (it's not their fault... they tried)

This is flawed reasoning. Even someone who doesn't want the help can benefit from receiving that help. Even if the help doesn't work as intended, I find it extremely unlikely that someone won't be affected in some way by getting that help. And now, a psychologist doesn't have the option to give up if it's not working, because that's not how having a job works. At least not if they want a paycheck. And if they can't help, it sometimes is their fault.

The problem I have with Twilight is that she acts completely obsessive when it comes to these things. This also accounts for the alleged rumor that she suffers from OCD (And given the way she behaves at times... I'd say that's pretty accurate)

That's not just an alleged rumor, it has been confirmed by the writers that each of the Mane 6 have some kind of issue like that. In Twilight's case, it's OCD, which she has learned to work past as time goes on. But Mykan doesn't like the idea of character growth.

She does not like to fail, nor does she like it when friendship would fail.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but what IS wrong is the way she may tend to obsessively get in others faces, and constantly harass them until they comply with her or her friends.

And this is where Mykan begins spreading misinformation. I could grant that perhaps Twilight harassed Moondancer. But that's all. And that wasn't even a friendship mission. That was just Twilight wanting to get back in contact with her old friends.

Good examples of this are CRANKY DOODLE, and MOON DANCER. Even though in the end, the two of them had change of hearts and turned around, and even Fluttershy managed to soothe Discord into befriending others, and Twilight convinced Starlight Glimmer and Sunset Shimmer to turn around...

I already addressed Moondancer. Fluttershy isn't Twilight, and didn't she didn't reform Discord because of Twilight. And I'd argue that "soothe" isn't the proper word, since the only way he changed was by going from (in my opinion) Chaotic Neutral to Chaotic Good. The thing about Discord is that you hardly see any change in him. Starlight Glimmer and Sunset Shimmer were actively dangerous. So with them, it's less like a psychologist offering help and more like a police officer trying to deescalate a situation.

But how is Cranky in any way related to anything Twilight has done?

But what if you don't want her help? What if you don't like the help she's giving, and what if you feel you don't need it? What if you don't want to be the kind of person SHE WANTS YOU TO BE because SHE WANTS IT FOR YOU.

Not wanting the help doesn't mean you don't need it. Not liking a specific help doesn't mean it's not the best option. Feeling like you don't need the help doesn't mean you don't need the help. And Twilight never tried to make anyone who she wants them to be.

My Friendship is Failure focuses on those situations as well as the OCD of Twilight and her friends (Refusing to take "No" for an answer and stalking or harassing the subject at hand until they comply with their ways)

Mykan also exaggerates Twilight's OCD, and doesn't seem to realize that her friends aren't OCD like Twilight. However, I'm not opposed to how the Friendship is Failure series started. It actually was decent. The stories felt like they could've been real episodes... just focusing on failure rather than success. But the Friendship is Failure series completely changed into something completely unrecognizable to the canon show. The friendship stopped being focusing on failure and became revenge porn.

-Some people just don't like friendship. They don't want it or need it. They feel content, they feel they have a good beat on things.

I don't disagree with this statement.

-Some (Like me) would try to prove to Twilight while Friendship is a good and wonderful thing, it's not a necessity.

If you replace "friendship" with "co-operation", then that claim would be proven wrong.

-You don't have to have friends to have a job. ("The people I work with are my CO-WORKERS, we're not friends. I work to make MONEY not friends.")

I didn't realize Mykan had a job, considering that he always seemed opposed to getting a job he didn't like. I suppose you don't go to work to make friends. But there's no reason why co-workers can't be friends. In fact, being friends with co-workers can make working more enjoyable.

Ever since she got her wings and crown, her OCD went way up.

Except that... no it didn't. Her OCD went down when she ascended.

She tells Pinkie to stop bothering Cranky, yet she, herself, stalked Moondancer just as badly.

More misinformation. At what point did Twilight tell Pinkie to leave Cranky alone? Because if I'm not mistaken, Twilight was never in that episode.

Anyway, I'm not saying Twilight shouldn't help ALL the time...

That's literally one of the arguments Mykan made.

Still on a finishing Note, Cranky and Moondancer let me down, when they were the closest things I had to the ultimate rejection for Twilight.

You know what I said at the beginning about this not being about Mykan's vendetta against Twilight? Is it too late to change my opinion? Because he's inserting Twilight where she never was. And that was with Cranky.

The subject was found guilty for violating statures 3-7: "Giving into Twilight Sparkle and friends, turning their lives around and embracing friendship and acceptance in a most intolerable way." and was sentenced to Death.

Execution was carried on December 24, 2020 (Friendship is Failure #20)

So we're going legal talk, are we? Well, two can play at that game.

It was never confirmed that Moondancer accepted Twilight's friendship specifically. As for turning her life around, it was more that her life was put back on track.

The subject also found guilty for violating said statures. Violation of these laws is punishable by Death, or prison for life."

CRANKY DOODLE... awaiting execution in the Fictional Penitentiary."

Twilight had nothing to do with Cranky. And his goals were completely different. His cranky attitude has nothing to do with friendship. That's just Cranky being cranky Cranky. And when Pinkie Pie helped him find who he was looking for, his accepting her friendship was nothing more than the equivalent of accepting her apology. He still wants to be left alone... as long as it's with Matilda.

On that note, what's Matilda's sentence?

There was a lot to cut out since it doesn't actually relate to Twilight's "job". And he even referenced a fanfic that he never finished. And a large chunk of this was about him referencing Pinkie's interaction with Cranky, which Twilight had absolutely no part in if I'm not mistaken.
