I'm cautiously optimistic, leaning a bit more towards the optimistic side. Given what we know about it, I can absolutely imagine ways it could go wrong, but at the same time I think it could also be really good if it's done well.

While I myself still have no shortage of G4 stories to write and publish... for the most part, these are my sentiments exactly.

For better or worse, I'm a product of the show's twilight years. I know it most likely isn't the case, but over the past year-and-a-half — especially in the wake of finale's airing — it's been hard to shake the supposition that one of the since-disillusioned veterans might go and bite my head off if I quote-unquote "do it wrong*". Point being, it'll be nice to have a clean-ish slate when G5 rolls around, at least for a little while.

To put it simply (and to quote one of my favorite songs while I'm at it): this is my generation, baby.

*In all honesty, I couldn't tell you what "doing it wrong" means either. Could be anything from "writing about one of the pseudo-canon ships" to "treating post-finale Discord with as much as a shred of dignity". The definition changes like the weather, really.

Though hate to disappoint but it's not a new world, its G4 world in the future, that much has been confirmed so you are forever trapped on Equestria mwahahahahaha.

I just wish I could write. I have had a few ideas stick around in my head, but when I try and put them to paper or a processor not much ever comes out so they remain tidbits stored in the cloud.

In seriousness, I'll give it a shot, but I think explicitly tying G5 to G4 is a poor choice borne of executive meddling to try and draw in the G4 fandom. It *could* be done well, but I'm not holding my breath.

The image released of the bedroom has a (home made?) tapastry of Celestia's cutie mark, a Rainbow Dash poster and figurines of the Mane 6. The shot with a ball on her horn was in a pegasi controlled building (kingdom?) evidenced by the guards being pegasi. She is likely wearing the ball as a requirement just to be there as a result of the divided nations. I was honestly hoping they'd drop a pegasi into the adventure group when I saw that, but this cover sort of refutes that. Doesn't mean it won't happen though as that might be a spoiler for the movie.

From what little I've seen, the movie feels like big budget officially licensed G4 fanfiction. That is neither good nor bad. As this site proves, there is a LOT of good fanfiction out there and the comics industry has been doing it profitably for decades. Though I honestly would feel less worried about it if they hadn't explicitly tied them together since then they wouldn't have seven years of canon to dance around. For example, they have a minimum of six immortals to neutralize just to make the story possible.
