One, Not Two · 2:25pm Feb 22nd, 2021

As I stated in the Author's Note on the second chapter of my latest story, Love Shouldn't Have Consequences, the story idea was based on a single song. Specifically, a rewrite I made of a song. This is that rewrite. I'm posting because it was a key reason the story was made.

Original Song: One Not Two by Blixemi

Key:
Phenyx
Pharynx
Thorax

If I could go back and change my mind and do it all again
With all the crossroads ahead of me and knowing how it would end
Could I take the right path, like before I was aware
Our destinies are tied to each other, it would be me or you
One, not two

‘Pexy, it was you and I
Side by side since our daddies made their choice
We had no other friends, just each other
Daddy always ready to defend
And we had each other, and ‘Pexy, you were the best brother
You have always been my best friend
Up until it was my end~

Walked through Tartarus together
Weathered every single weather
The stormy wind blew me off my weary tired hooves
Would I go back, change my mind, change everything?
Not on your life!

We came into the world in a haze, seen as abominations of our parents
And curses beyond our understanding
We walked upon a wire, you and I, words of brutality tossed left and right
Our daddies probably knew
Their choices would scar us so
They’d become our only home
We’d go through Tartarus alone

If they could go back and change their minds, do it all over again…

We’d never go without each other or you, now or then
And if you asked about our past and why we stayed together
We’d pull you close, muzzle to muzzle, and we’d say…

If we could rewind the clocks, see the paths before us, and do it again
With the answers ahead of us and knowing what would happen
I know I’d make the right choice, just like before I knew
Our destinies have always been tied together
It was me and you

One not two
One not two
One not two
One not two
One not two…

And now my heartbeat’s racing
I don’t know if this is what I’m supposed to do
But I feel within that my path is true
I’m sorry brother it had to be this way

But I have to die, for you to survive

‘Pexy, I love you so much more than you know
It’s time for me to go, but you won’t ever be alone
You have dad and papa and they have you, brother~
Continue on, I’m always here, watching out for you

Just know~

If I could go back and change my mind and do it all again
With all the crossroads ahead of me and knowing how it would end
I know I’d take the same path, I’d make the right choice, I now know the truth
Our destinies will always be tied together

Brother I’d die for you!

Me or you
One, not two
One, not two

Me or you
One, not two
One, not two

Me or you
Me or you
One, not two…

Brother, I’d die for you…

Story:
In a world where Thorax and Pharynx committed incest and had Apex and Phenyx, the two have been seen as abominations and mistakes. Their fathers do their best to shield them from this. But, when the two were teenagers, thirteen or fourteen, a group of changelings finally decided enough was enough. They cornered the two as they were heading to the training yard, Pharynx talking with Thorax a few hallways away. Phenyx and Apex shielded each other, but when one of the changelings tried to blast Apex with magic, as was the closest to them, Phenyx lunged and blocked the blast. It hit her directly in the side, close to her heart

This song is showing her as she walks to the gateway of Elysium, reflecting on her past memories, good and bad. Thorax and Pharynx’s lines are what she remembers from when she and Apex asked them about their relationship. Phenyx says her final lines as a goodbye to Apex, who she can see but not touch, sobbing over her dead body as their fathers get rid of the changelings who ganged up on the nymphs, then rush to comfort their son.

Phenyx loved her brother. She would have done anything to protect him, even if it meant sacrificing herself. She didn't want to leave her family, but she knew she had to. It was the right choice.

(Nymph on the left is Phenyx, nymph on the right is Apex)
