Good evening. Here is my review of Disney Pixar’s Up. I really admire how simple yet clever and symbolic the title is. This film not only showcases the literal ascension of our main character with his own house with balloons but also the emotional kind through his unpredictable adventure. I truly love this movie; it really captivates the life and soul of what Pixar and Disney films should be about... moral life lessons about moving forward, being encouraged during hard times, always being there for those you love and care about, and so forth. This film shows us how important it is to move on in our lives by experiencing new adventures and being determined to keep your promises for the good of others.

Carl Fredrickson was a very well written protagonist. He spent a life time with his best friend/wife until her time came and had to live the rest of his years alone. It explains why he was so moody and grumpy during his time solo. But as soon as he meets a young boy named Russel, life leads him to a path that seemed to fulfill his dream goal but then eventually brought him to a dangerous path. Of course, they don’t go on this adventure alone for long; they are soon accompanied by a giant bird whom Russel named “Kevin” and a dog named Dug who talks through an advanced collar. Kevin was actually adorable, and Dug was so funny. I especially love that “SQUIRREL!” gag by the dogs throughout the film.

They eventually meet this elderly legend by the name of Charles Muntz. He was a really good antagonist since he wanted to steal Kevin away in order to prove to the people that such a creature actually DOES exist and thus to restore his reputation. Plus, when he revealed his true intentions to Carl and Russel with that sinister attitude, his entire countenance just resembled that of desperate hatred, anger, greed, and pride. He totally acted and behaved like a true villain just wanting to vindicate himself by any means necessary even if he had to kill people to get what he wanted like how he killed those adventurers to prevent them from gaining his true prize. The writers really handled him well.

Although I am rather confused how he was still alive at that point. Shouldn’t he already be dead since he was literally a grown adult when Carl was a kid? What is the age gap between them? Ehh, guess it’s just food for thought.

But nonetheless, I want to take a moment to give respect this legendary actor who voiced this character:

Christopher Plummer will dearly be missed. To be honest, I never watched much of his films except this one and also The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus where he played the titular character himself. I will always remember him in those films, and although he is gone, he will continue to live on in his movies. I was just shocked when I heard he passed away just a few days ago. He will never be forgotten by his fans and all those who knew him. RIP Christopher Plummer...

The voice acting is tremendous, the story was so well done, the animation is splendid, the soundtrack is done well, and the main characters were funny, entertaining, and a joy to watch on screen. This is indeed one of my favorite Pixar films of all time, and I will rate it an 11/10.

Oh... and Alpha’s voice sounding so much like Alvin and the Chipmunks was just... not funny. But regardless, I love this movie!

Peace ✌🏼

Your a good man, Mr. J.

Plummer was also in a musical called "The Sound of Music", which co-starred Julie Andrews. As a matter of fact, I posted my own review of that movie not too long ago today as a dedication to him.

I know this is a late reply, but you never stated what you thought of this movie.

Any thoughts on it?

Hey, guys. I found out yesterday that the voice actor behind Carl Fredrickson in this film sadly passed away this past Sunday. His name was Ed Asner. Just thought I would let you guys know about it in case you haven’t heard. May he rest in peace. He will dearly be missed. :pinkiesad2:

I found out the news recently too. I know who Ed Asner is as well.

As a matter of fact, after finding out about Asner’s death, I decided to review “Up” as a dedication to him since the role of Carl Frederickson is one of his most iconic.
