Okay, so yeah, I know this trailer's been making rounds already, but fuck I'm talking about it anyways.
OKAY! So! Theories to follow, and obviously spoilers after the break.
Theories on Godzilla's fury?
I think the Orca got rebuilt personally. I know there's a new group. Apex.
Maybe they drove him mad, and offer to 'fix' the problem? Like, MechaG just now showing up right when the King goes seemingly mad? It's way too convenient. More to the point, remember that skeleton shown in 2014? Yep. It's Kiryu. Chekov's gun fired at last I bet.
And Godzilla is rightfully pissed. Sees it as an abomination against nature. Basically nature again and again points out the folly of man. Humans playing with nuclear fire.

Honestly, for a while I was Team G. Not anymore. See, the trailers frame Kong as this sympathetic fellow, the hero. Not to mention he's got that axe. Like, we've all known the atomic breath gave Goji the edge. Like, it's always what won the Big Man his fights. Now Kong has a way to negate it. He's got the brains here. I think Kong will win. Get his title as King.
He's only been titled just Kong up till now. Not King Kong. This is his trial by nuclear fire. Also, totally betting there's a chance Skull Island will become Monster Island. Also... Remember that shot of Kong seemingly diving his axe in the Big Guy's skull? Of course you do.
What if in the actual film he's actually exposing MechaG? Destroying his disguise. Not saying say all of the shots in the trailer are MechaG. Just probably some. Like, I know how Trailers work. There's something here that we're just not seeing. On a similar note... If it's not Kiryu there is one other possibility.
It could be Ghidorah's brain in control.

Ren, Serizawa's son is in the film. The one major shot we see of him is standing next to a schematic of MechaG.
...How do we know he's not Anti-Titan? Maybe he has a grudge, thinking they killed his dad?
Ooh, got some interesting speculations going on here. Especially with your suggestion of just what might be driving Mecha-G here... Yeesh...
I mean, exposing a Mechagodzilla disguised as Godzilla was literally the plot of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, the first time Godzilla and Mechagodzilla faced off. I'm wary of it this time because of, due to the advances in technology, the sheer biometrics you'd have to replicate to fool people into thinking the machine's Godzilla. You can't just put a Godzilla suit on a tin-plate robot with a flamethrower and expect everyone to fall for it (note: accurate description of the first Mechagodzilla).
Personally, I'm waiting for Destoroyah to show up in this universe. That was the other little Chekov's Gun in King of the Monsters.

I imagine holograms, like little projecters on the mecha itself to make it look like the Big Man.
I dunno, this movie seems like the grand finale. Also, the problem is, well, each monster comes with a price tag. The only reason we got MechaG is because the rights were left over from Ready Player One.

Well, the set up is there for Kiryu with the bones from 2014. My only thought is it might be a bit too fantastical, even for this universe.

I'm talking about like energy signature, heartbeat, stuff like that. Monarch's been tracking Godzilla for years - this has to be one flawless duplicate to fool them considering they track Godzilla on a regular basis.
On the flipside, the attacks could be at monitoring stations, so they don't have accurate readouts to discover the phony. I can definitely see Kiryu happening though - that's one of the first thoughts I had when I saw the Godzilla skeleton.
