Melody curled up in the Ether, which, as usual, was empty and alone. She hid her eyes with her wings, struggling not to cry. She hated that the Ether couldn't let anyone in without her taking them in. Just once, she wanted someone to care, but her friends couldn't come to her, and she often didn't feel like going to them when she was upset.

Melody began crying softly, trying to sing to calm herself down. She wiped her eyes and made one of her favorite books appear. But nothing worked. She placed a hoof on the "floor" of the Ether and caused it to become transparent, showing her what was beneath it, in Equestria.

Bezier and the Change Gang were leaving. Eyes water.

Hero was in his room, angry and sad. Tears fall.

Heath was still locked in that cage, glaring at Pharynx. Cascades of tears.

Melody knew it wasn't her fault... but she just didn't want this.

First with her fillyhood friends, one of them deciding they hated the other and Melody frantically trying to hold the friendship together... she gave up, and she hadn't talked to either of them in at least five years.

Then, with her friends at the School of Friendship, Orchid Gleam and Harper Lynn. She had participated in that fight, and she still felt guilty for what she'd said. But Orchid had deserved it. No one was going to lie about that. Harper was her only friend now, in fact, they had quite literally been Melody's only friend before she met Hero, Heath, and Bezier. It was sad, she knew that, especially since lately she and Harper barely talked, they were both so busy with school and other friends.

Melody stood up and in a flash was standing in the woods outside the changeling hive. She began walking towards the hive, using her magic to rid her face of tear marks.

"Conceal...don't feel...put on a show...make one wrong move, and everyone will know..." Melody sang softly, feeling her magic course through her body, sending her into a slight state of adrenaline rush, as she'd intended. She then smiled, doing her best to make it look natural.

Melody passed by the Change Gang and Bez, smiling at them and waving with her wing. They waved back, and she continued walking. She ran to Hero's room and pulled him in for a hug. Melody resisted the urge to tell him how upset she really was about Bez clearly making plans to leave, and how she was upset that he was sad. She merely hugged him tight, nuzzling him, before letting him go to have some time to himself and going to Heath.

Melody let her smile falter slightly, knowing Heath wouldn't expect someone to smile upon seeing the state he was in. She made some brownies appear, walking in and standing before the cage.

"Alright mijo, let's try this again." Melody said, slipping into a Mexicoltian accent. She then smiled gently at her son-figure, despite the fact her lungs were screaming and her heart was aching.

Melody had to do this. She had to be strong for the others. Someone had to be. She was not about to let her third-and probably last-chance at friendship break. She couldn't go through losing her friends again.

Melody Song had bad luck with keeping friendships. But that didn't mean her friends had to stay upset at each other. If they wanted her gone, so be it. If they hated her for trying to connect them again, fine.

Just keep her in their friend circle long enough to promise her they wouldn't break away from each other like the two friend groups that came before them. Melody thought. Her heart, already containing two jagged cracks running almost to the center, began to show the sign of a third. Her chest ached but she gritted her teeth.

Inside, Melody cried.

Outside, she smiled sweetly at her son as she gave him a brownie.

Don’t be. So am I.

5444510
Thanks...but...I don't think I'm the one you need to apologize to...or at least, the one you need to talk to...

5444506
*Hugs back* sorry...

5444512
I'm sorry too *buries muzzle in shoulder*

5444511
I know, but I don’t think he’d even want to talk to me.

5444520
Please, Bez

Nothing's going to happen if you don't try. You don't have to try right now, I'm just saying...eventually...

5444522
Thank you...you want a hug?

5444512
Don’t be sorry, Hero... this is my fault

5444524
It’s not your fault... I should’ve been thinking...

5444526
I would’ve likely made the same mistake though.

If I had kept my mouth shut, this whole thing wouldn’t be a trainwreck.

5444506
wish i knew how to help

5444528
Oh... equal...?

5444533
Yeah... equal.

I’m sorry for not talking it out sooner. And for causing this whole mess.

5444534
It’s okay, I know you didn’t mean it
