    Backstory: A Lesson in Kindness

I don't have much to say today... [There is a collective gasp, and two readers faint] So, this entry will be rather short. [Cheers and applause ring out]

    Anyway... moving on.

    Backstory: Little Filly Lost

First, some context. The Dark Steel series is a spin off from The Quicksilver Chronicles. The private investigator Dark Steel is first mentioned in chapter 3 of One Of Us where he helps Quicksilver and Misty find a lost friend. Those events are retold from Steel's point of view in

    Backstory: The Painless Murders

In the story One of Us I introduce a private detective, Dark Steel, that Quicksilver and Misty hire to help them find Tinker Cob. He was a fun character, but didn't get nearly enough screen-time. So I decided to tell the story of the search for Tinker from his point-of-view. That story because

    Backstory: The Alchemist, part 1

The genesis of this story goes back to 2016, long before I'd ever watched the first episode of FiM (early 2020). At that time, I saw a piece of artwork showing a wizard walking. That's it. Just walking with his staff and a cape billowing out behind him. Something about that image inspired me to figure out who he was and why he was in a rush to get somewhere. So I started writing. I stopped

Other Artwork, part 2 · 3:43am Jan 28th, 2021

Just for fun, I decided to try one of those YCH (Your Character Here) commission sites a while back. For those not familiar with the concept, the artist provides an already drawn scene with the background and posed pony/ponies. You provide the gender/race/color information and they modify the already existing pony to match.

The advantages are that it's a lot faster than a full commission (I went from payment to done in about 2 hours), and it's cheaper (since all they're doing is color/shading the ponies, well, plus wings or horn). The obvious disadvantage is you're restricted to what existing scenes they offer, with no customization (or if offered, for an extra fee).

I'm not sure where the web-site is hosted (https://ych.commishes.com/category/brony/) but the artist I used is in Russia (I'm in the US). I thought that was VERY cool.

That particular site acts like an auction site, but the reality is you're basically just claiming a slot to get a piece done. The winning bid is just a down-payment on the options they offer. So if you "win" for $10, but the color/shaded piece costs $20, that's what you pay to get it done. But everything is documented so you know what you're getting. Footnote: as a buyer, I did the entire thing as a guest without the need to make an account.

This next one was from a Reddit post offering to do free drawings of OCs. So I sent them my character reference doc and waited to see what they created. They thought it would be fun to give Quicksilver and Misty a kid, so there he is. If you look at the colors, you can see how it's a merge of the parents. It's not something I can use as cover art, but it's still fun. Credit to: Flame The Kitsune
