hello. here is what happened so far:
- our roommate helped us and we cloistered in their room with them for a bit
- we did some research on our rights but it was not very helpful. we live in canada so laws are different than in the states, and we also share a bathroom/kitchen w/ our landlord and are therefore not covered under the residential tenancy act. our protections seem very minor, thusly
- today the landlord called the police about someone supposedly stealing his gamecube a few days ago. the police came and talked with us for a bit. they were nice but still scary.
- we woke up to our roommate letting us know our landlord had moved all of our stored possessions (mostly books) along with hers, onto the curb. she called the police who came but didn't really do anything besides watch while we moved our things back into the garage. the man from downstairs got mad at us for making too much noise, but then he helped us move our things.
- we hung out with our roommate and got to pet one of her birds named Crono. he is a nice birdy.
currently we have been emailing 5 - 10 ads a day looking for somewhere to live and have not had any luck. the only places we can afford are all for students. we don't have any references and to be honest consider ourselves too disabled to rent anything in the first place. it's a miracle we even managed to wind up here.
this is just an update to let everyone know we are not dead but we pretty much wish we were. we have no idea what to do besides looking for places still (that's what the police officers said to do). even sleeping is impossible. any minute we might get woken up by something insane and ridiculous. i am having a lot of flashbacks to when we were homeless and they are not very fun.
we will provide another update when more relevant things happen. we are very scared and wish we had someone close to us to hold.
So wait, in Canada its legal for a landlord to just kick you out? For no other reason than "I dont want you living here anymore"?

As far as i understand they have no lease agreement. If you got no lease, you get kicked out. That's how it works.
I mean they should just give you a notice to get out in 2 weeks or so, but people who assume they can live places without lease are dumb. Idk what the landlord is doing, or why are they being a dick tho, most of the time you can just go talk to them and sign a lease, instead of getting kicked out of the blue. Probably something going on, like landlord selling the place, or someone did something.
Remember if you dont have lease (or some sort of ownership claim) you have as much of a right to live somewhere as any person who walks in off the street. Otherwise you are just asking someone "hey can we live with you for a while" and then refusing to leave.

Good points. If there is some sort of contract, why is this happening ? And if there isn´t....why not ? Verbal agreement nowadays is as solid as thin air.
dark, im gonna dm you, as i gotta find out WHERE in canada you are. If yer in ontario then your landlord is committing a criminal offense as the whole province is in strict lockdown by doug fords orders. This would give yer landlord not only several fines but likely jail time for breaking the law.

If you're in Canada you really need to look into your province's equivalent of Ontario's Residential Tenancies Act. In Ontario, at least, even without a lease agreement you still fall under the protections of the Act.
