Greetings, everyone! Here is my review of yet another of Christopher Nolan’s films: Interstellar. Just like with Inception, this film was really spectacular in a number of ways one can even imagine. Although it isn’t as profound and epic like Inception, it is still a wonderful film filled with emotional moments, solid character development, characters themselves I actually care about, and much more. So let’s go right ahead into this!

The acting was really good as always. You can never go wrong with these films... especially if they feature brilliant people from The Dark Knight Trilogy. In this film, we see Anne Hathaway and Micheal Caine playing as their respective characters: Professor Brand (Caine) and his daughter (Hathaway). After researching nearly all of Nolan’s movies, I have to come to this personal conclusion: it is NOT a Christopher Nolan movie if it doesn’t at least feature a member from The Dark Knight Trilogy. Mark my words. Something tells me that Nolan has a great friendship with these people especially Michael Caine.

Anyway, Caine and Hathaway did a wonderful job playing as these characters; they felt real, and I really liked how they were so invested into trying to find a new home for mankind as it was facing extreme extinction. Of course, they could not do this alone, for they had our main character cooperate with them—Cooper. Cooper was... somewhat okay. I mean, he kinda reminds me of Cade Yeager from the Transformers franchise because they are both protective fathers of their daughters and would do anything to keep them safe. Cooper though is a much more adventurous type of guy which makes him a little more interesting. Although he could be stubborn sometimes, he was still likable. Matthew McConaughey wasn’t that bad honestly.

I cannot forget to mention TARS. He is legit the BEST character in this film because I love his humor, sarcasm, and honesty. The fact that he had a certain percentage for each of those straits is really cool. I am so glad he wasn’t killed off and actually made it all the way through the film. I was so worried that he would get the Bayverse treatment or the Star Wars treatment (like how Solo killed off L3-37). Man, I love TARS.

The story was also intense and was far from being predictable. It had me waiting eagerly to see what will happen next and actually had me worried whether or not our heroes would actually succeed in finding their new home world. For instance, when Cooper was watching those tape recordings of his own daughter fully grown up, following the guidance of Professor Brand and working for him, and taking care of herself after all these years passed and to see him cry in joy while watching really made me emotional. It was so moving to see him tearfully rejoice that his own child is alive, grown up, and doing well. Although I was very sad to see Professor Brand die in peace, I was also shocked that he made a mathematical mistake which really raised the intensity of the plot and the stakes. Gosh, the script writing is so good.

The visual effects were also done well and looked very stunning and real. The choreography is splendid, and the editing is superb! I really enjoyed the ending as well as we see their mission a success and Cooper’s daughter Murph in elderly age and being so happy to see her father again after so many ages. My favorite scene in this movie was the part where Cooper was in an alternate dimension where he saw his past self with the grief-stricken and angered Murph as she didn’t want him to leave (which we see earlier in this film). To see Cooper banging on the books from the shelf begging his past self to not do it was heartbreaking. That alone shows that we can’t change what we have done in the past; however, there is hope for us. What we can do is to change our bad actions and habits NOW so that our future will be more promising and rewarding.

If there is one thing(s) I can criticize the film for, it would be the lack of a main antagonist and action/fight scenes. I guess not every movie has to have those, but I just wish this movie had those to make it more interesting and awesome. Still, it is great without them. As long as it has great storytelling with brilliant characters and dialogue, it’s good enough for me. I deserves a 9/10!

Peace ✌🏼!
