Potential Cozy Glow Story and Headcannon · 8:25am Jan 8th, 2021
I will note what I will bring up might be disturbing to some people, so I will warn you. I will be mentioning psychopathy, murder, and the unsettling nature that is Cozy Glow. I for one think it might be an interesting concept, but if you are uncomfortable with those things then you do not need to read this post.
Also, Season 9 finale spoilers if you haven’t seen that!
So we were first introduced to Cozy Glow back in season 8, episode 12, Marks for Effort. I, in typical fashion, was late to the party and already new Cozy would be a villain as I watched the season finale before I watched the season. I already knew she was bad, but when I look back at her early episodes, I was surprised by how...innocent she looked. If I wasn’t spoiled, I probably would have assumed she was just a one time character and moved on with my life. But seeing that she becomes the villain?
Parts about her personality just...rub me the wrong way. She’s mastered manipulation and has a way to toy with other’s emotions. She can gaslight people without being called out for it because her act is so genuine it makes you feel bad for her! I mean, she convinced the student six to not tell Twilight about the Tree of Harmony invading the vents under the school, and her actions made her seem desperate and scared. It’s amazing coming from a filly her age!
So...why? Why is she like this? Why was taking her to Tartarus and then turned to stone the punishments she gets? And where are her parents? We’ve never seen them in the show, not even a mention from them by Cozy! I don’t know if it was just me, but I talk a ton about my parents, and so do my friends. I would have expected at least something from the kid.
Ok, maybe I’m being unfair, MLP doesn’t tend to give us a lot about the character's background, especially when it comes to side characters and villains. Not a lot of ponies mention their families all that often, so perhaps they were just never brought up?
It’s the most likely scenario, but not all that fun, is it? Let’s say what if they were written out for a reason.
I’ve seen plenty of people on this website and other platforms headcanon that Cozy’s parents are neglectful. It’s not hard to see why. We don’t hear from them when Cozy is taken to Tartarus, and even after Cozy was turned to stone, they never showed up once. Not even as a throwaway line like “Oh, Cozy’s parents want to talk to our manager” or something (yes, obvious joke is obvious).
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a compelling argument. It explains why there are absent from the story but...would Cozy turn out the way she was just neglected?
Oddly, I don’t think so. There is a big jump from just “filly being ignored by her parents” to “trying to take over the world...twice.” It’s a leap that doesn’t make sense to me and seeing if she was neglected, I feel we would get something from her character that would express that. Something like her being either being overly clingy or really reclusive to having relationships. It just doesn’t click in my brain.
Then...I found my reason to why I disagree with their specific headcanon. Then I did my research to make sure that what was in my mind matches with what I was thinking. It’s almost scary how accurate I was.
I think Cozy is a psychopath.
I first thought up about this when I was actually making headcanons about Starlight, strangely. I might go into it deeper at a later date, but a lot of Starlight's traits seem to line up with sociopathy. While I was on that train of thought, my mind wandered towards psychopathy.
Comparing psychopathy to Cozy is just too perfect. Of course, this is a kids show, so a lot of Cozy symptoms are toned down quite a bit, but the qualities are still there.
If you don’t know, Psychopathy is a mental disorder that makes a person lack emotional responses and a lack of empathy. Cozy may show a range of, oddly comedic, emotions and facial expressions, but I do note that most of those moments are fueled by anger and frustrations, emotions that psychopaths defiantly do feel.
Her moments of innocence, nervousness, and fear don’t seem to be as pronounced as her anger. We also know that Cozy is highly manipulated, as proven by her almost success to rid Equestria of its magic just by word of mouth. Non-criminal psychopaths are often manipulative and aggressive, much like Cozy is in her shining season. Most likely her spouts of other emotions are acts, and likely she doesn’t feel remorseful or guilty for anything she has done.
Now, you may see where I’m going with this. My personal headcannon until proven otherwise is that Cozy has murdered her parents. Not for vengeance, and not to protect herself, but purely for fun.
Cozy doesn't seem to have a problem with killing people, despite being a filly. She is the first to stop Twilight’s speech, opting to blast her with alicorn magic to try and demolish her and her friends, and she probably didn’t care about how Equestria would turn out without magic. She’s doing it for the enjoyment, without any thoughts of the consequences.
Or maybe she thought about the consequences and didn’t care, who knows?
Cozy could have easily killed her parents, and then convince everyone that it wasn’t her. Perhaps even convince them that there were alive somewhere else in the world. I will note that it’s still possible for Cozy’s parents to be neglectful, but I personally think she probably had a pretty normal and happy childhood, and she was just this corrupt from the beginning. I’ve actually found out that most serial killers had pretty decent family lives, buts still turned out the way that they did, so it’s isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
So I’m conclusion, Cozy is a psychopath. Thank you for coming to my-
