The biggest mistake that EqG made was not making Sunset's demon form an eldritch horror. I know it's a kid's show, but the fact that they didn't show how horrifying the transformation was/could have been (outside of like her tears evaporating away as she transformed) really made Sunset's heel-face turn at the end of the movie… kind of less believable. Like even Sci-Twi's transformation felt more horrific? Even though she was painted as a tragic and unintentional antagonist rather than a full-out villain like Sunset was. Like she was screaming and begging people to help her vs Sunset's transformation which just had the Big Magic Things sound effects. It gave off a kind of "wow that was quick" vibe to Sunset's apology and stuff.
And regardless! Make Sunset's transformation more horrific!!! Make the eoh seem more like a weapon rather than just. oh yay make-everything-better-light. give the main characters moral dilemmas over the use of the weapon!!!
On top of that, we barely saw what her transformation could do.
